The Honda NSX boasts all attributes of the most exotic supercars. It is mid-engined, enormously powerful and blessed with perfectly balanced handling. Launched to sweeping praise in 1991, at the heart of its sleek lightweight all-aluminium bodyshell rests a 3lt 24 -valve V6 engine. Boasting both VTEC variable valve timing and a VVIS variable volume induction system, power is a mighty 276bhp at 7,300rpm.
With a five-speed manual transmission in place, performance is sufficient to trounce all but the most outrageous of supercar rivals: maximum speed reached is 167mph.
1997 saw a facelift for the NSX that brought with it an increase in engine capacity to 3.2lt, and a power boost to 290bhp at 7100rpm. Also added was a six-speed manual transmission to give greater in-gear acceleration, boosting the maximum speed to 170mph.
The NSX's handling also flood's driver's senses. Double wishbones with coil springs and anti-roll bars are set up to eliminate roll yet preserve suppleness. Four huge ventilated discs coupled to an anti-lock system guarantee massive braking, while a traction control system intervenes to prevent the driven rear wheels from spinning excessively.
