The orignial alignment of U.S. Rt. 66 through Bloomington-Normal, IL.



Rt. 66 enters Normal on the Frontage Road of I-55. This is the signed route through Bloomington-Normal.

Rt. 66 was re-routed through a new subdivition and to provide room for a railroad overpass on Towanda Ave. Sections of the old road are still there leading to the overpass embackment.

Whne you come out of the subdivition you will be on Pine Street. Along this street there are some building that at one time were a old gas station and motel.

Rt. 66 then turn on Linden Street for two blocks then goes down Willow Street.

At Illinois State University, Rt. 66 head south down BUSN. U.S. Rt. 51. Rt. 51 is divied onto seperate streets through Downtown Normal and Downtown Bloomington. Southbound is on Center Street, while northbound is on Main Street.

This alignment joins the later alignment from Main Street to Morris Ave. At Morris Ave. it jogs over to Springfield Road which runs along Veterans Parkway. You head down Springfield Road for about 2 miles to Old Cabin Town Road. Rt. 66 uses Old Cabin Town Road to cross I-55/74. Just after the overpass, Rt. 66 heads down Beich Road. Then it turns into the Frontage Road along I-55. On this side of Bloomington-Normal, Rt. 66 is on the northside of I-55, where on the northside of Bloominton-Normal it is on the southside.
