This picturesque town, 900 meters above sea level and nestled at the foot of the Serra dos Orgaos (Organ Mountains) is 91 kilometers from Rio.
It was named after Empress Teresa, but was only founded two years after she went into exile.
Teresopolis is a good starting point for a visit to the Parque National da Serra dos Orgaos. The Dedo de Deus (Finger of God), a peak that rises to 1,692 meters, is clearly visible from as far away as Rio, as is the highest point in the park, the 2,263-meter Pedra do Sino (Bell Rock). The Cascata do Imbui waterfall puts on a misty non-stop performance six kilometers west of town on the road to Petropolis.
