Re: Mortgage Assistance

On August 20, 2003, without reason, and without discussion, my wife, Angella C Perry, left me. When she left our home at 271 Linden Road, Canonsburg, Pa, she took her clothing, her personal belongings, and her parrot, along with one dog.

She left in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am which was registered under my name and insured under my name. (The car is still registered in my name, and I now found out she has had the car repossessed once already, and they are looking for the car again now. Even though I have a court order stating she is responsible for that car, I am still receiving calls asking for payments). The car at the time was valued at around $12,000 and that was about what was owed on it at that time. The car was purchased by me for about $21,000 two years earlier and was principally used by my wife.

Unknown to me at the time, she had also been not paying any bills for about four months previous to her leaving. This was discovered once I had to handle the bills after she left. She had paid nothing. I found out I was behind on everything: Mortgage, Insurance, House Taxes, Life Insurance, Car and House Insurance, utilities, and my own personal Truck payments. In short, she had hidden the fact that we were in debt. Thankfully, I did not have any credit cards.

In short, I figure that with the car, the money not paid to the bills, and with her leaving on payday, both her payday and mine, and taking that money as well with her (My pay being about $900 a week, approximately, and her two week pay of about $800) the amount lost for me was close to $15,000 total (which does not include other monies which I have included further in this letter), and also includes a couple of hundred dollars that was grocery money kept in the house.

She left me flat broke on payday, and without telling me about having not paid any bills for about four months. In total, I lost about $34,000 the day she left.

Why she left, where she went, who she went with, was all unknown to me, her Mother and her Brother. There was no reason given. To this day, and after several court hearings, no one has yet to learn her reasons for leaving as we had no idea where she was for several months. Since that time, I was forced to give her $11,500 more in money in order to have her sign over the rights to our home, which I was then forced to re-finance on my own, at a much higher rate of interest due to her having left me in such debt. My house payments went from $687 to $860. Larger payments, one paycheck, and deep in debt.

For about 6 months, I was in a daze. I could not believe, nor understand what had happened. It took me awhile to get myself emotionally together and to realize what debt I was in, and what the future held. I am still working on the emotional aspects, and am trying with all my might to deal with the financial end of it all.

I also have to add that I was forced to retain an attorney, which I now owe $900 to, and to ask you to consider the days (and pay) I lost from work due to court hearings. She really put me in a hole.

I can pay my bills, and have strived to do so, but I cannot pay them all at once and because of this, I am having a difficult time at catching up. I am now, at this time, still owing for January, February and soon March.... I also owe house taxes for last year, which I did not realize she had not paid (about $1700) and now this year's taxes are due.

If I could get the Mortgage Company (Chase Manhatten) to stop fining me for late payments, and to allow me time to not only pay the monthly payments, but slowly pay the back payments... I could do it... with great difficulty as I have other bills also behind... but I could do it. I am not about to lose my home I worked so hard to get. I need help. I am asking you to help me. Just give me a chance to catch up without getting futher and futher into debt due to fines. I need help with the house taxes as well, not money, but time to catch up. I can and will somehow work extra hours or a side job to pay all these bills, but I need time.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.
