Chapter Twelve: The March through IthilienThe Grand Host of Light marched as swiftly as the forest of Ithilien allowed, making their way west along the great road from Cirith Ungol to turn south into Gondor’s southern fiefs. However their journey was soon cut short as Tuor and Daetarion’s outriders spotted an army of nigh on seven thousand men crossing the Anduin at Osgiliath. Riding to meet the strange force they found Mithrandir and from him learned of a battle that took place on the fields of Pelennor leaving the foes of Minas Tirith vanquished and that the survivors that were fit for battle marched on the Black Gate. The host’s generals, content that the threat to Gondor had been annulled and elated at the victory on Pelennor, then turned the company and joined the host of the West heading for the Black Gate. Sweet was the meeting of Tuor and Imrahil, of Aragorn and Woodpecker and the sons of Elrond with their Elvish brethren.
