Chapter 13

Nick stood impatiently waiting before Hannah’s door before a petite, middle-aged woman answered the door. “Hello. May I help you?” she stammered.

“I’m here to pick Hannah up. I’m Nick Carter, nice to meet you.” Nick held out his hand to her but she didn’t take it. Nodding his head he took back his hand and shoved it in his pocket, unsure what to do.

“Hannah didn’t mention anything about going out tonight. Hold on,” she went to the bottom of the stairs, “Hannah get down here. Some guy’s here to take you out.”

Nick could hear her rushing around upstairs. After nearly three minutes Hannah pounded down the stairs. “Hey Nick, you’re early.” It was only 8:45, he hadn’t been able to wait around his house any longer, so left 15 minutes early.

“Wow, Hannah! You look great," he told her with a gleam in his eye.

Hannah looked down at herself, “Oh thanks, it’s a new dress. Well mom we’re out of here,” she pushed back the quiet woman and stepped up to Nick.

“Now wait just one minute. You never said anything about going out tonight.”

“Yes I did mom!” Hannah exclaimed. She remembered telling her mom about tonight over dinner and even showed her the things she bought at the mall.

“And just when do you think you’ll be back home?”

“I’m not sure. Probably not too late though.”

“Fine then, go,” Hannah’s mom turned abruptly and walked away. Hannah stared at her and smirked a little, baffeled by her mother's behavior. Ignoring it she smiled at Nick awkwardly, embarrassed by her mother.

“Well let’s get going beautiful. We don’t want to keep the dance floor waiting too long.” Nick took Hannah by the arm and walked her out the door. He had noticed the bottles laying all over her house but decided no to mention it. Suggesting her mom had a drinking problem wouldn’t be the best way to kick off an evening with Hannah.

Inside the club the music was pounding and the lights danced around the room. Hannah’s face was glowing. “So do you want hit the dance floor right away, or take it all in for a bit first?” Nick inquired.

“Hmmm, I think I wanna take it all in first. This place is amazing Nick!”

“I hoped you’d like it. I think a night here is just what you need. A girl needs to get her groove on every now and then,” he playfully did a little dance causing her to break into laughter.

“Do you know this is actually my first time at a club?”

“Are you kidding me? Alright! Boy do I have a lot to show you.” Nick grabbed Hannah by the wrist and led her around the crowd a bit. It was completely packed. Hannah was beaming, truly happy for probably the first time in years. Nick was glad to be there with her. All he wanted was for her to have a great time and forget about all the stresses in her life.

“Well Mr. Carter, I think I’m ready to strut my stuff on the dance floor now.”

“Ok, let’s go.” Nick wrapped his arm around her waist and started to the dance floor. They were almost there when he felt some one grab is arm.

“Oh my god! You’re Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys!” a girl exclaimed. “Hey guys, come check this out...it’s Nick Carter,” She called over a large group of girls. Immediately Nick was occupied with screams, pleads for autographs, hugs, and kisses. Hannah shoved aside to just watch. Nearly five minutes later she felt completely forgotten and decided to find something else to do than stalk her date and his fans. Tossing her hair she walked away into the sea of people.

At the bar Hannah sat circling her finger around the rim of her coke. “Hey there, what’s a pretty lady like you doing sitting her all by herself?” a guy broke in.

“Well, I was here with a friend, but he...well, you could say, ditched me.”

“Are you serious? What a jerk! He must be blind to leave you. Hi, I’m Jake by the way,” he held out his hand.

Hannah grabbed it and shook it. “I’m Hannah. Pleasure to meet you.”

“Oh I assure you, the pleasures all mine.” Hannah began to blush and looked back down at her drink. Jake and her continued their conversation, he was in town for a week on vacation. Hannah was so intrigued by him that she didn’t even notice Jake dropping a white powdery substance in her drink.

Round and around Nick circled the room looking for Hannah. He couldn’t find her anywhere. After he finished signing the autographs he realized she’d left. ‘How could I just forget about her like that? She’s probably taken a cab and gone home!’ Just as he was about to give up and leave Nick spotted Hannah in the middle of the dance floor grinding with some guy.

Nick raced up to her, “Hannah, there you are. I’ve been looking all over for you.”

“Oh, hey Nick. What’s happening?” she hung onto the guy.

“What do you mean? You left back there when I was talking to those people. You aren’t mad?”

“Mad?! Why would I be mad? I’ve met the greatest guy! Nick this is Jake. Jake this is Nick...he’s a big popstar! You might of heard of his group...the Backstreet Booys,” Hannah's speech slurred. “He’s real famous.”

“Hannah what’s up with you? You’re drunk!” Nick yelled.

“Drunk, what are you talking about...I haven’t had a drink all night. Just been dancing with Jakey here, he’s a real good dancer.”

Realizing this guy must of slipped her something Nick grabbed hold of her arm, “Come on Han, we’re leaving. I’m taking you home.”

“Get off me! I’m not going home. I’m just getting started!” she yanked away from him. “Who do you think you are? My dad? Ha Ha! My dad...he’s dead!” she laughed ecstatically.

“I mean it Hannah. We’re leaving.”

“Like hell I’m leaving. You can’t tell me what to do!”

Nick rubbed his forehead and scanned the club. Figuring that everyone was too caught up in their own fun to notice him Nick grabbed Hannah and pulled her off the dancefloor and out to his car.

“Ow! Nick, you’re hurting me!” she screeched. He plopped her down in the front seat and fastened her seatbelt. “Haha, Nick, stop it. That tickles.” Nick rolled his eyes and got in the drivers seat, started the engine, and sped onto the highway. There was no way he could take her back to her house like this, he figured his only choice was to take her to his.
