'Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?'

A general from the Earth, a general from the Moon. One would think they’d have nothing in common. But they’d had a fairly stable relationship. Until a devil named Metallia presented Kunzite with an offer he couldn’t refuse...

“Zoisite, don’t you want to come out of this alive? Metallia’s forces will crush our pathetic troops like a flock of gnats!”

“She's evil, Kunzite!"

“Come now, Zoisite, just think about it! Metallia can give us everything we ever wanted.”

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want...” Zoisite replied.

“Don’t give me that religious crap, Zoisite. Homosexuals are damned to hell anyway.”

“Psalm 22, Kunzite. Why hast thou forsaken me? Have you forgotten all we’ve shared these past years?”

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you.”

“Isaiah 49. I didn’t know you read the Bible, Kunzite.”

“Human theology is a required subject on the moon. You knew that, Zoisite.”

“I forgot.” Zoisite laughed a laugh without humor. “She hasn’t even touched you yet, and already she’s driving us apart.”

“I know, and I’m sorry for it.” Kunzite hugged the smaller man, knowing he would win this argument...

And he had. Three months later, Kunzite and Zoisite stood before Queen Beryl and Metallia, preparing to forsake everything and everyone they had ever known.

Kunzite bowed low before the two queens and sent a telepathic thought to Zoisite to do the same.

“Zoisite, Kunzite, yes, I’ve heard of you two. Great generals on the side of good, eh?” Queen Beryl cackled, her voice slicing through Zoisite’s spine. “Well, we’ll change your thoughts on that right quick. Indeed, our brainwashing process is very painless, but very thorough. We’ll eliminate all those wretched thoughts of mercy, honesty, and love that are making you weak.”

Kunzite glanced over at Zoisite, knowing his companion would never stand for the last one. He sent Zoisite a quiet thought of why they were doing this, repeating over and over, we want to be on the winning side, Zoisite, as opposed to being destroyed by Metallia’s army.

But it was really unnecessary.

Zoisite sent back, *I don’t have worry.* then in a kind of whisper, *Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away.*

Kunzite sighed deeply. If only he had Zoisite’s faith...

The end, so far...
