| 1. Pick a team Sounds easy right? Well, it isn't. Most teams won't have active fans in the draft and some teams will have many fans. So what you have to do, in advance, is name, in order of your preference, the teams you'd like to draft for. If more than one person announces for one or more of your preferences, egoc will randomly select who gets that team. (In subsequent mock drafts, you are likely to get preference for that team.) And, unless you absolutely refuse, egoc may assign you a team you have not announced as a preference. A well rounded student of the game will be willing to assume such a task... a boneheaded prima dona will announce for one team, refusing all others and is likely not to ever be seen or heard from again. IMPORTANT: IF YOU SIGN UP FOR THE DRAFT, WE NEED AN E-MAIL ADDRESS WHERE YOU CAN BE CONTACTED. IF YOU'RE HESITANT ABOUT POSTING YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS ON THE MESSAGE BOARD, USE THE E-MAIL LINK ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THIS PAGE TO E-MAIL egoc YOUR ADDRESS 2. Do Your Homework Find out all you can about your team(s):
- Where in the draft order will they be drafting?
- What are their needs?
- Who might they lose to free agency
- Who might they pick up in free agency
- Who's available to them?
- Who is likely to still be on the board when their turn comes?
- Will you pick for position, best player available, or a little of both?
- Use as many resources as you can
3. Draft Your Players
- The second mock draft will be begin on Sunday, March 10, at one PM, right coast time (when we all would normally be watching the first game of the day), with the pick of whoever is drafting for the Texans.
- We will only be drafting the first round
- Selections to be made on the Packers Message Board at thenflforum.com by starting a new thread entitled something like "The Packers Select"
- NEW! TRADES BETWEEN TEAMS WILL BE ALLOWED AS FOLLOWS:
- Trades must be announced during the time period of one of the traders
- Trade announcements must include full details of the trade (e.g. "The Detroit Lions trade their first round selection to the Arizona Cardinals for their first round pick, their third round pick, and Guard Yusof Scott)
- The time limit for a particular selection is unaffected by trade... if the Lions selection starts at 2:15 PM and they trade their pick to the Cardinals at 9 PM, the Cardinal selector must make his selection by 10:15 PM.
- Multiple trades within a position selection are allowed (The Lions trade their first round pick to the Cardinals for 'X, Y, and Z' and the Cardinals trade their new first round pick to the Chargers for 'A, B and C') as long as all other obligations of trading are met.
- Trades may only be transacted between different selectors. If madnova is selecting for both the Lions and the Cardinals, he would not be permitted to make the abovementioned trade.
- Trades must be somewhat realistic: A proposed trade of the Lions first pick for the Packers 7th round pick would not be allowed.
- egoc will moderate all trades. If you propose a trade, and the person to whom you propose the trade does not respond, egoc will approve or disapprove the trade one hour before the current selection dead line expires and if neccessary make the pick for the non-respondant. (For example: madnova, selecting for the Lions proposes the above trade with gallichio, selecting for the Cardinals; gallichio doesn't respond; egoc will approve or disapprove the trade and if approved, make a pick for the Cardinals.)
- The clock will start on each subsequent selection at the time the previous selection was made, except as provided below during down time
- Each selection will be allotted 8 hours to make a pick.
- This large time allotment is to allow those who may not have constant access to the internet due to work or school to participate
- The time between 1 am right coast time and 9 am right coast time will not be counted against a selector
- If a selection is made during the down time, the clock starts ticking against the next selector at 9 am right coast time
- If a selector does not think he will be able to get on line during an upcoming time slot, he can e-mail egoc a short list of preferences and egoc will post the selection for that person. (For example, let's say Favre4TD has the Bengals who pick at #10. Let's say it's Monday evening and we're waiting for someone to pick for the Vikes at #7. Let's say Favre4TD knows he won't be able to get on line on Tuesday. He can e-mail egoc with a list of 4 choices listed in order of preference. The list of 4 choices will preclude any chance of all of his choices getting selected.)
- If a selector fails to make a pick in the time allotted, egoc, who will not be taking any teams this year, will make the selection
- Trades are not allowed unless the real teams have made trades which are reflected in the draft order on Feb. 17.
- Only NFL eligible players (i.e. declared underclassmen) may be selected
- In the past, drafts have lasted from 5 to 10 days, so be prepared to make a commitment and do not be discouraged if it takes a while (as if you have a life).
Commentary Everyone is invited to comment on any selection and it's best that the commentary be added to the selection thread. As per thenflforum.com rules if you disagree with a selection, attack the pick, not the picker. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if you were so smart, you'd be in a real War Room instead of in a Mock Draft. |
