"In the great hall lay the pale, lifeless form of a young woman, the blood completely drained from her naked body. A few steps away lay a girl sprawled grotesquely and pitiably on the floor. Her breasts had been slashed repeatedly, and she was unconcious from loss of blood. Chained to a pillar was another young woman who had been burned and savagely whipped to death." - From The Werewolf Book, by Brad Steiger.
That is what vision you would have happened upon in the home of Countess Elisabeth Bathory. She is noted as one of the "true" vampires in history, yet she did not drink blood. Elisabeth Bathory was born 1560 and was famous for her pale flesh, raven coloured hair, sensual lips, and blazing eyes. She married Count Fernenz Nadasdy when she was 15, and was very pleased to discover he practiced witchcraft, sorcery, and worshipped Satan. One day the Countess became very angry with a young servant and hit the girl until blood splattered on herself. She noted that her skin was paler and younger looking than before on the places where the blood hit. She was convinced she had found the fountain of youth- bathing in the blood of young girls. For the next 11 years, she murdered and tortured kidnapped young girls for her youth. Finally, all the madness was put to an end on New Year's Eve in 1610 when the prime minister raided the castle. Elisabeth was walled up in her apartment in Castle Csejthe with only tiny slits for air and food. It is estimated that 600 girls met their end in the castle. She lived until 1614 to be 54. That is the story, of COUNTESS ELISABETH BATHORY NADASDY. BG by-
