VHT-2 Atticus Veritech Hovertank

The VHT-2 Atticus was designed with a dual role capability. It was designed to be better armoured than the original VHT-1 and it was designed with increased anti-aircraft capabilities. Since a number of limitations were revealed in the original Spartas, efforts were taken to correct these problems in the Prototype Atticus Tank. This design was taken of the boards upon the arrival of the Robotech Masters, but the plans still remained with the scientists even after REF Forces were taken to Rifts Earth. And so, in order to replicate a transformable & mobile anti-aircraft mecha, testing began for the new tank. The tank closely resembles the original Spartas. It has the same heavy arm shields and the same body frame. In Battloid Mode, it can be easily mistaken for the venerable VHT-1 Spartas. However, closer inspection reveals that the Atticus has a different head - one that actually resembles and ATAC Officer's helmet - only much larger. The arm shields the normally house the tank's main weapons are somewhat different, they are bulkier and instead of being attached to the upper arms/shoulders, they are now connected to the forearms. This allows the tank's main weapons to be utilized in both Tank and in Battloid Mode. The Devastating Main Cannon has been replaced with two telescoping Tri-Laser cannons. These are scaled down versions of the same cannon mounted on the nose of the old TASC-01-SCF Logan Fighter. While the Battloid and Tank modes of this veritech closely resembly the original Spartas Hovertank, the Transport mode bears little similarity to the original transport mode. The craft is lower, less streamlined and the pilot is partly protected by a shieled compartment. The advantage here is that the two tri-laser cannon can be fired while in Transport mode. In Tank mode, the mecha's vertical tilt capability has been increased. Unlike the original hovertank, this tank can fire at angles up to 75°. This capability make the mecha an excellent anti-aircraft battery.

This mecha is the 2nd most common VHT in the REF Rifts Earth Forces.
