Respect is Everything.

The Basis Of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 2, Is That You Are A Freelance Gangster, Living And Surviving In A Tough City, Ridden With Gang Violence. This Game Is A Classic, Made by the people who would go on to make Space Station: Silicon Valley To Tell You The Truth, It Was Released On At Least Three Different Platforms (PC, DremaCast, PSX) That I Know Of, And Dates Back To 1999.

The Graphics...are... how shall I say...not so great. But what they game lacks for in graphics, it surely makes up for in sound and replayability. You could play this game a thousand times and take a different route each time, things would be very different. The three gangs in the City (Zaibatsu, Yakuza, and Loonies :-p) allow you to preform tasks for them, assuming you have enough respect. Respect is everything. You start out with the same amount of respect from each gang, but as you preform different missions for each gang, your alignment changes.

The Sound in this game, is absolutley stunning. If ever there was a game with bad graphics and such great sound, I've yet to find one. The game can be pretty much quiet, when your not in a car (preferably hijacked :-p). When your in a car, you notice the pace really picks up, especially due to the speed of said car. Please, dont be like orc and steal vans. Be sure to IM him at Orcman602 on AIM and tell him how gay stealing a van, u-jerk truck, or truck cab is. Anyway, I got off topic. The sound is made great, really by a couple elements:
-The radio: with so many original songs (including 'taxi drivers must die') and DJs from the three gangs, how could you turn down such a listening oppurtunity? some of these people are so funny I wish they had real radio stations so I could listen to them babble on and on about ___ no one really cares about while they compete with each other! ...but if you cant stand the dirty jokes...well if you cant take the heat get out of the ____ing burning house.
-The police scanner: when you attack someone in front of a cop, or you are in a cop car/medicar/firetruck you hear the police scanner going off crazily with 'we got a # at [street here]' and it really adds to the realism in the game.

The gameplay is fairly simple. I mean, the controls practicly play the game for you its so easy. And since the game was made before developers really got into using those nifty little analog sticks on the PSX pads, its not like you have to worry about hitting a building because your a fraction of a hair off. The in game stuff makes a lot of sense too, much like driver II, GTA2 works by a system of felonys, if you get one (which is usually for stupid things like...reviewing games the way orc does...) the cops will chase you, but not for long. When you get to two, they are more presistant, and at three they start putting up road blocks. I know that at four swat vans come and bust a cap in your ass, but I dont know what happens at five yet.

While the game is seemingly never ending, and always fun, I kind of feel that the developers looked at the finished product, and said "Storyline? What The Hell Is A Storyline?" because while there is one, it really only develops if you side with a certain gang and help them with there missions. The only other aspect that slightly disturbs me, is that a pick-pocket will rip off a guy, the guy will scream 'police help' and the cop in the lane next to me...finishes his doughnut. Next thing I know the man be chasin me down for runnin over a pick-pocket! Other then those two things, this game is seemingly trouble free.

AirChameleon's Score: 9 Out Of 10

This is AirChameleon reminding you that Respect is Everything.
