The Kitchen

You enter a building that has some marvelous smells coming from it. You follow your nose, and you walk down a passageway. A mouse waves his ladle at you. "You want food, you make food. Even if you are a hare. Chose a recipe, and print it. Or copy it." He shuddres. "Hares."

Salamandastron Cake

Ingredients: Eggs, sugar, an angel food cake, any flavor of ice cream, and food coloring of your choice

Utensils: A baking sheet, a spoon, a mixing bowl, some tinfoilish stuff

Mix the eggs and sugar together until they are a white frothy mass. Then mix in the food coloring. Place the cake on the baking sheet and put the ice cream inside. Then spread the mixture over the entire thing. Pop it in the oven for three minutes and you're done. Voila! ~Thistledown

Rainbow Float

Ingredients: red fruit punch, lemon sherbet, a carbonated drink

Utensils: tall glass, ice cream scoop

Fill a tall glass halfway with red fruit punch. Scoop into the glass 2 medium scoops of lemon sherbet(about 2/3 cup) Fill the glass with the carbonated drink and enjoy! Voila! ~Khory Bannefin

Scones

Ingredients: shortening, backing mix( avialable at Inland Lake's store, it's the mixture for scones that someone has already made), milk, sugar, egg, butter, jam, honey

Utensils: cookie sheet, medium bowl, dry measuring cup, liquid measuring cup, measuring spoons, long-handled spoon, ruler, pastry brush, sharp knife, por holders, spatula

Heat oven to 450 degrees. Grease cookie sheet with shortening. Mix 2 cups of baking mix, 1/4 milk, 3 tablespoons of suagr, and 1 egg into a medium bowl with the spoon until dough forms. Sprinkle a clean surface with flour and knead the dough. pat the dough inot an 8 in. circle on the cookie sheet. Measure it with the ruler to be sure. Using the pastry brush, brush the dough lightly with milk and sprinkle it with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Sut the dough into eight wedges and bake about 12 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Carefull seperate with spatula. You can serve the scones with butter, honey, or jam. For curant scones, mix in 1/4 cup of currants with the dough. ~Khory Bannefin

Apple Pie

Ingredients: Pastry for a 9 in. 2 crust pie, 6-8 apples thinly sliced, 2-1 cups of sugar, 2 tbs flour, 1/2-1 tsp ground cinnamon, dash ground nutmeg, dash of salt, 2 tbs butter

(if apples like tartnes, sprinkle with some lemon juice) Combiine sugar, flour spices, and dash salt. Mix with the apples. Line a 9 in. pie plate with half of the pastry. Fill with the apple mixture. Dot with butter. Put on the top crust, pinching sides together. Cut slits so the steam can escape. Sprinkle with sugar, then bake at 400 degrees or golden brown. Enjoy. Voila!~Marreli

Honey Scones

Ingredients: 1 3/4 cups of flour, 2 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 6 tbs butter, 2 eggs, 1/3 cup milk, 1/4 cup honey (or more, if you want)

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Grease a large cookie sheet. Mix flour, baking powderm 1 tbs sugar and salt in a bowl. Blend in the butter with a pastry blender (or two knives) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Beat the eggs in a cup, reserve one tbs to use later on. Stir the milk into the remaining eggs and then put the egg mixture into the flour mixture and stir until well mixed. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, roll dough 1/2 an inch thick with a floured rolling pin. Cut the dough into 3 in squares with a knife, then cut each square diagonally to form triangles. With a spatula, place triangles of dough about 1 in. apart onto the cookie sheet. Brush the egg you reserved earlier and then sprinkle with sugar, Bake for 10-15 minutes until the scones are golden brown. When they're done coooking, but still warm, brush the top of them with a thin glaze of honey(I heat up the honey a bit before so it's easier). Makes about 10-12 scones. Voila!~Marreli

Apple Crisp

Ingredients: 2 medium tart cooking apples, pared and sliced, 2 tablespoons of water, 3 tablespoons of all purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of softened butter, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Divide apple slices between 2 10-ounce custard cups. Sprinkle water over apple slices. Mix flour, suagr, butter and cinnamon with fork until crumbly, sprinkle over apples. Bake uncovered until the topping is light golden brown and the apples are tender, about 25-30 minutes. Makes 2 servings. Voila!~Marreli
