Cdr A.R. Thorpe - *NOAVI member _____________________________________________________________________________ I regret to report from today's Times Colonist the following obituary: THORPE, Albert Rolland (Rolly) August 5, 1924 - March 28, 2007 Rolly died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, Edith; and children, Donna (Clem), Rolland (Lee), and D'Arcy (Sherry). He will be fondly remembered by grandchildren, Nathan (Cynthia), Shanni (Kevin), Kyle, Alana (Jed), Willa, Tasha, Shawn, Sabrina (Ian); greatgrandchildren, Tanner, Kaylie, Seth, Megan and Matthew; sister, June Walsh; brothers, Richard (Agnes), and Leslie Thorpe; sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many friends. He enjoyed many adventures while growing up in Beaurepaire, Quebec; excelled in the Navy during WWII; and worked thirty-nine years for Bell Canada in Montreal, Quebec. He retired to Victoria in 1980 and said "We should have moved here thirty years earlier!" He loved being Chief of the Roxboro Volunteer Fire Brigade (nineteen years); enjoyed the Rods and Reels Fishing Club (seventeen years); and delighted in Flo's exercise class at Cedar Hill Rec Centre. A man of many talents, he was known for his yellow plum and blackberry wines, his mustard pickles and ketchup, his carpentry and cement work, his geraniums, his affable nature, his willingness to help others, and his ability to tell a good joke. A celebration of Rolly's life will be held at the Cedar Hill Golf Club on Monday, April 2, 2007 from 2 pm to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Victoria Hospice Society would be gratefully appreciated. _____________________________________________________________________________ From: http://ml.islandnet.com/pipermail/noavi_obits/2007-March/000299.html _____________________________________________________________________________ *NOAVI = NAVAL OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION OF VANCOUVER ISLAND - http://www.noavi.ca/ _____________________________________________________________________________ Copy and paste the following URL into your browser's location box, to view a photo of Rolly Thorpe, taken at THE MAY 16, 2005 BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC LUNCH AT THE PRINCESS MARY RESTAURANT, Victoria, BC: http://roxborofire.webs.com/thorpe.jpg _____________________________________________________________________________ Reprinted under the Fair Use http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/107.html Doctrine of International Copyright Law ____________________________________________________________________________
