High school sucks. Everyone knows that, right? Being a survivor/graduate, I often look to see a film that shows high school in the light that I see it...a place full of mutated monsters that vomit slime.
The Class of Nuke Em High series was a very successful one for Troma, as it came into the video market very near the birth of the rental house; people would have a few good movies to choose from, and Nuke Em High was action packed, funny, and "Tromatic".
The first film is most likely the easiest to find. It plays on cable quite a bit, and you know how those cable channels love to play the same movie over and over and over.... The movie details the horror of atomic pot running rampant in Tromaville High School. It turned the honor society into a gang of motorcycle riding, ass kicking, 80s-style punks, The Cretins. They cause havoc, and are the REAL stars of the movie, in my opinion. (Also, Pete and Spike are Bozo and Slug from the Toxic Avenger).
The second film is pretty tough to find. The Class of Nuke Em High 2: Subhumaniod Meltdown is much more Tromatic than the first(lots of dick and fart jokes, lots more nudity, and Tromie the mutant squirrel). It follows the evil plans of the dastardly Melvina, and her attemts to destroy our hero, Brick Bronski. She does so by breeding a race of naked girls with mouths on their stomachs. The film leads directly into Nukem High 3: The Good, The Bad, and The Subhumanoid.
Nuke Em High 3 is pretty easy to find, as it is one of the few Troma movies available at Blockbuster video(the store who has one of the biggest needs for a beat-down in all of history...they keep Tromeo and Juliet from me, and I wanna see Tiffany Shepis kick ass! Is that too much to ask?). Professional Wrestler(Are you a member of Brick's Clique?) Brick Bronski plays 3 roles. He is the mayor of Tromaville, and the mayors two sons, one good, and one evil. This film is very artistic, as it was based on Shakespear's "A comedy of Errors". I don't remember it having a giant mutated Squirrel kicking ass, but I slept through 10th grade English class, so its possible.
The NEW installment of Nuke Em High is being written by US, Troma fans! On the Troma site, you will see a way to contribute to the Nuke'Em High sequel(Lloyd, if you are reading this, PLEEEEEEEEAAASSSEEE cast Tiffany Shepis in this movie, I'll be your best friend!)
Next week, one of Troma's greatest movies, TROMA'S WAR!
