There was once a doctor who was very old. He developed a sickness, and had to have his legs cut off at about the age of 70. He sat in a wheelchair, and for one whole year, all he thought were unhappy thoughts, and about how unlucky he was.
One day, a little girl ran up to him in the streets, and pulled up his pants leg. "What happened to your legs, Mister?" she said. The doctor was about to yell at her about respect for elders, and how rude she was, when she pulled up her pants legs. He saw that both of her legs were mechanical. He quickly swallowed all the things he was about to say, and looked at her.
"Do you want to know why I have mechanical legs?" she asked.
The doctor nodded.
"When I was 4 years old, a crazy man ran into our house, killed my 17 month old sister, and chopped off both my legs," she explained. "He was never found."
The doctor slowly absorbed all of this, and started to cry. "Don't cry mister. It's not all that sad. At least I have my mechanical legs!" she exclaimed, surprised at the emotion the old man was showing for her.
"It's not that darling. I'm crying because I only lost my legs at the age of 70, and still mourn over them. I had almost my whole life to use my legs, while you only had 4 years, and you can still be so full of beauty and joy," he explained.
To this day, he has been showing people this wonderous child, and has given her gift all over the world. He is now 80 years old, and he and his goddaughter have given hope and love to many.
