Chapter 8: Thge Fourth Magic

A huge wind burst through the windows engulfing me. Dimly I heard Numair and Alanna calling my name. But the wind engulfed me, unabling me to see outside it.

Then I was in a black chamber. Not black as in the colour, but black as in there wasn't a speck of light in it. But still some sort of light, enabled me to see. I was scared out of my wits to say the least. I had no idea where I was.

Then George appeared in front of me. He smiled at me genuinely, a sincere smile, not a smirk, then he faded away.

Then the voice boomed out. I jumped about a foot in the air and I'm sure my face most likely turned stark white. I started to tremble, terrified.

"WHY DO YOU TREMBLE?" the voice boomed out.

I eventually found my voice. "Becuse you're scaring the life out of me," I answered, softly, not sure what he could do to me.

"I WILL NOT HARM YOU," the voice boomed out.

"How can I be sure?" I asked, some of my toughness coming back to me.

"BECAUSE I WOULD NOT HARM MY OWN DAUGHTER," the voice explained.

I froze. I swear, I just froze like a block of ice. I still couldn't believe what he'd just said. He'd called me his daughter! "Who are you?" I asked, frantically. I desperately wanted to ask him so many questions. This might give me a clue to why I was here. Then it hit me. If this guy was my real father, then the one back in my old world wasn't. I had nothing back there. My real family was here. I can't deal with this, I thought.

"IT IS NOT YOUR POSITION TO KNOW YET," the voice cried.

"Please!" I begged. "I have so much to ask you!"

IN TIME," the voice answered. "NOW YOU MUST RETURN TO THE MORTALS. THEY ARE FRIGHTENED FOR YOU."

Then I felt myself falling.

I woke up when something wet splashed against me. I spluttered awake, spitting water. I was drenched. I looked up to see Numair, Alanna and Jonathan staring down at me, worried expressions on their faces. Numair held a water beaker in his hands. He'd spilled an entire jug on me.

"What happened?" I coughed. "You suddenly materialised out of thin air in front of us, unconscious," Jonathan explained. "Yoiu gave us a fright young one. Numair poured an entire beaker of water on you, in the hope it would wake you up."

"It worked, I assure you," I coughed hard, again.

"Where's George?" Alanna asked. "He disappeared with you as well."

"That wasn't George," I realized. "He used George's appearence to reach me."

Jonathan, Numair and Alanna were looking at me blankly. "Who's 'he'?" Alanna asked.

"I - I have no idea," I admitted. "He was the one who - what would you call it? - kidnapped me. He used George so he could get in."

"That's why he never sounded like George. He had no idea of George's character," Jonathan mused.

"And I thought George was turning into a right stuck-up noble," Alanna said, shaking her head.

"And fortunately he isn't," Numair added. "What happened Rachel?" Jonathan asked gently. "What happened when he - took you?"

"I was in a black chamber, that somehow still had light I it, so I was able to see."

"Reminds me of my Ordeal," Alanna murmured and shuddered.

"Then the voice came," I said.

"Voice?" Jonathan asked, his brow furrowing in puzzlement. "What do you mean?"

"It just came.. Out of thin air. It just was there. And - Oh God. Oh God," I said, my eyes widening and I started to tremble.

"What's wrong?" Alanna asked, hurrying to my side.

"He called me his daughter," I said, tears starting to well up in my eyes. Tears of joy or sorrow, I had no idea. "The owner of that voice is my father."

Alanna stared at me in shock, Jonathan paled slightly and Numair's jaw dropped.

"Are you sure?" Numair asked me urgently.

I nodded. "I think I'd be sure if someone called me his daughter," I snapped.

"This is extraordinary," Numair murmured. "Don't you see? This is the best proof we have that you were born in Tortall. You have a father here and you must have a mother here as well."

"If only I knew who they were," I sighed. Then I brightened. "He said I'd know everything "in time". That means he's going to come again."

"Well, we have something to look forward to," Alanna said dryly. Then she stared at something behind me. "Numair what are you doing?"

I felt something cold on the nape of my neck. "What are you doing Numair?" I screeched.

"Take it easy," Nuamir said quietly from behind me. "I'm just checking your aura to make sure that 'visit' didn't affect you in any way." I felt a strange sensation go through me and I squeezed my eyes shut. When I opened them again, Numair had lifted his hand from my neck. I turned and stared at him. His dark eyes were wide, and he was staring at me like I'd grown a second head.

"What?" I demanded. "Your aura has been affected," Numair said quietly.

"In what way?" Jonathan demanded.

"Your fourth magic has come to light," Numair said quietly.

"Which ones that?" I asked.

"The Gold one," he answered. I nodded. We had eventually learned which was which. My Gift was pearly white, but when I actually used it, it was emerald green, my Wild Magic was copper, my Telekinesis was silver and the Fourth magic was Gold.

I'd a feeling I was about to learn what that fourth magic was.

"It's Elemental Magic," Numair said bluntly.

"What?" I asked, utterly confused. Then I saw Jonathan and Alanna's faces. "What?" I demanded.

"Elemental magic is highly unpredictable and quite frankly it's highly unlikely you'll be able to control it properly. Which means -"

"Everywhere I go, I'm a danger hazard," I said flatly.

"To put it most simply: yes," Numair sighed.

"Great," I sighed, flinging my arms up in the air. "Happy now?" I yelled at the ceiling.

"It can't be that bad," Alanna sighed. "But what I want to know is how she got it. Who are her parents?"

Jonathan and Numair nodded. I looked at each one carefully. They hadn't heard it, I realized.

You see I'd heard an answer to the Question I'd yelled up at the ceiling.

It appeared I'd been the only one. I'd heard, EXTREMELY, being echoed around the room. It had been the same voice of the guy that claimed to be my father.

I was worried.
