October Goddess Feasts

1-- Fides. A very ancient Roman goddess, Fides is the guardian of the bond of trust and faith between people. She is the goddess of integrity and honesty, and her rites and worship were among the most sacred of all the Roman gods. On her feast day she was offered sacrifices by priests whose right hands were bound in white cloth.
13-- Camenae. Italy. The Camenae were the goddesses who dwelt in freshwater springs and rivers. They were prophets, and were later associated with the Muses. Their festival is celebrated by tossing good-luck wreaths into wells.
21-- Ursula. A Slavic moon goddess. The Christians turned her into a saint.
31-- Carlin. Scottish. Her name means "old woman", and Carlin was the spirit of the eve of Hallowmas. Her effigy, built from the last sheaf of harvested corn, was exhibited to protect farming families from unearthly visitations.
