The daughter of '50s British pop singer Marty Wilde, Kim Wilde had several hits during the '80s. Her synthezizer pop fit did will with the new wave movement, and as the decade progressed, she coalesced her talent into mainstream pop.
In 1980, Kim Wilde signed with producer Mickie Most's Rak Records, Her first single, "Kids in America," hit the charts early in 1981. "Kids in America" climbed to number two on the British charts in the spring, and her second single, "Chequered Love," made it to the Top Ten.
The following year, "Kids in America" hit the Top 40 in America.
