Old General Store Sugar Cookies
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Cream shortening with butter until fluffy and then blend in sugar. Add eggs, vanilla, extracts. Stir in very well.
Mix baking soda, salt, and flour and fold into batter, blending to make a firm dough.
Form into golf sized balls (smaller for smaller cookies). Roll cookies in sugar to coat.
Place cookie on cookie sheet 2 to3 inches apart.
Press down with a glass dipped in sugar.
For a more crackly cookie, brush sugared cookie with water and re-sprinkle with sugar to achiever the crispy tones.
Bake 10-12 mins until cookie edges are very lightly browned.
Cool on rack.
Cookies crisp up as they cool and become less fragile. If you over bake them, they tend to become hard after cooling.
Makes 6 to 7 dozen.
