Viniyoga is not so much a name of a yoga, rather a methodology for developing personal practice, using asana, pranayama, and meditation.

Viniyoga respects the fact that as we grow, the methods we use in yoga must be modified and the very purpose of our practice changed.

Our practice should protect health and promote the ability to be productive in the world as well as help us maintain health and inspire the deeper quest for self-realization.

Melissa Packer, our Vini Yoga instructor, has been working in the health industry since 1995. She has an extensive certified background in herbology and the aerobics field. Melissa has studied yoga therapy at the American Vini Yoga Institute under T.K.V. Desikachar and Gary Kraftsow. She is a certified yoga instructor and has taught professionally since 1997. Melissa has also studied at the San Francisco Integral Yoga Institute. She is trained to use Yoga therapeutically for a variety of special needs and conditions. Combined with a comprehensive education on the skeletal, muscular, nervous and other intrical systems of the body, Melissa structures her classes to help students experience strength, flexibility, deep relaxation and well-being. Each student receives individual attention to become more in tune with their body and soul. The Viniyoga style emphasizes movement, breathing, and body awareness. She is sensitive to each studentís expectations and limitations, and tailors her classes to the needs of those who attend. Melissa brings the clarity of alignment, the dynamic power of the breath and a warm open-hearted quality to her teaching.


Yoga offers a great, low impact way to increase strength , flexibility, balance and reduce stress. Come draw on both the physical and spiritual components of yoga. The classes will focus on the ancient teaching of pranayama breathing and asana practice. Yoga has been continuously adapted to suit the needs of individuals from different times, cultures, and traditions. In the hands of a wise teacher, Yoga meets the individual as he is and where he is, addressing each personís unique interests and concerns. Yoga is directed at creating the highest level of energy, vitality and freedom. The only way to do this is to work with yourself, not against yourself. By working hard sensitively, we create an environment thatís healing and that honors each individual, an environment that respects our boundaries and works within him or her. In this way, we create an atmosphere conducive to natural expansion and growth. Real health and vitality comes when we stop comparing and competing with each other, and start listening to the voice within that tells us what we need.
