What have I been DOING lately?

My plan was to have a place to hone and practice my Jedi webpage making skills. I haven't been updating this page since 2008 or so. Who knows how this will stay on the internet?

Fall 2003 I was teaching 8 classes at four different campuses. Ouch. Spring 2004, I was teaching 5 classes (maybe 6 if things go right.) At my highest, I was teaching seven classes at 4 campuses. As of fall 2006, I was in Warrensburg teaching ESL. Woot!

My first "official" teaching job was with Longview Community College (LCC) in October 2002. I got hired in the 2nd eight week session -- an intensive composition course. Then, I was an adjunct instructor of English 101 at LCC, Kansas City Kansas CC, JCCC, Penn Valley and the Leavenworth Center for a total of five years. There are great things about all the schools. At LCC, I love working near Longview Lake (and the short commute). I also love the atmosphere in the English department there. I work with a group of dedicated professionals who like what they do. The other schools also have their plusses.

Officially, I hurt my back the day after the wedding back in 2002. It's still hurting, but not as much. It hardly hurts nowadays, but I am pretty paranoid about hurting it again. I had NO idea how much pain a back injury could be. It turns out that I had somehow, unknowingly pinched the sciatic nerve in my back. After trying several different treatments, massage treatments and exercise have worked the best.

As of September 7th, 2002, I am a married woman. Steve and I tied the knot at the Hall of Waters in Excelsior Springs. You can check out more wedding pictures by clicking on the link on our homepage. The one thing that I've learned so far about being married is that I have a new number 1 family. Steve and I come first in my decision making. I hadn't thought my priorities would change so quickly or so dramatically.

My recent graduation from the two year MA program at CMSU was very exciting! I miss my colleagues and professors a lot (even though it's only been a couple of months). I hope to use the knowledge I've gained to be the best teacher I can.

Teaching is so fulfilling to me. I enjoy the vitality of the students and challenging myself to present the information in such a way that students can not only learn, but be inspired to make themselves self-motivated to learn even more.
