"I went to Knoxville and all I got were these lousy chicken pictures"

My friend from high school, Richie, is doing an internship in Knoxville, TN. That happens to be about 2 hours away. So we drove up on a Saturday (May 20, 2006) to spend the day there.
The first thing we did was get some FOOD. Something you can get only in Knoxville is called a Petro. It is basically a Frito pie, and it was invented there in 1982 during the World's Fair. (no pictures of a Petro)
Something we did do was drive around. Graham spotted a sign that read "Pigeons and Bantams for Sale". I happen to love both, so we stopped. The man was very nice and led us around and showed us all of his chickens (He had to get rid of the pigeons because he was allergic to them)

The smallest egg in the bucket is actually a fake pigeon egg made to encourage laying
I got to hold this one. Very soft!
It looks a little like the Chicken Man might be being rough with this bird, but in fact he was very kind and gentle to all of them. He raises them mostly as pets, and sometimes eats their eggs, but no eating of chickens is allowed!
Some peeps.
Obviously, the hen in the box is laying, or sitting on some eggs. This other hen came over to see what was going on...and the laying hen was not pleased.
Besides making a ruckus, she raised her tail up and fanned it out. Something I didn't know chickens could do!
Hen and Peeps.
All of the chickens that were here are called Bantams. If you live in certain places, you might hear them being called "banties". Bantam really just means "a small chicken". Some of them lay colored eggs.
A very curious chicken
