PREMIERE OF SERIES FEATURING 'BOWLING ALLEY LAWYER' -- From the writer/producers of 'The Late Show with David Letterman' comes this story about the quirky life of New York attorney Ed Stevens (Tom Cavanagh, NBC's "Providence"), who moves back to his small Midwestern hometown after losing his job and dumping his cheating wife. Once there, Ed pursues a romance with attractive teacher Carol Vessey (Julie Bowen, NBC's "ER"), the most popular girl in high school when they were classmates years before, and who currently has a boyfriend (Gregory Harrison) and gently rebuffs him. Undeterred, Ed hopes to impress her when he buys a bowling alley and begins a law practice there while living with his best friend Mike (Josh Randall, "Angel"), Mike's wife, Nancy (Jana Marie Hupp, "Brooklyn South") and their newborn baby. Lesley Boone ("High Incident") also stars.

1.2 The World Of Possibility (Originally Aired 10/15/2000)
MAGIC IN STUCKEYVILLE -- When the evil Masked Magician (guest star John Cariani) begins revealing the trade secrets of the town's beloved magician, Stuckeyville Stan (guest star Eddie Bracken), Ed is hired to defend the aging trickster's honor. Ed finds the one piece of evidence that could salvage the prestidigitator's reputation in Carol's childhood diary, and uncovers her schoolgirl crush. Meanwhile, Phil has taken charge for the grand re-opening of Stuckeybowl.

1.3 Just Friends (Originally Aired 10/22/2000)
ED FACES OFF AGAINST FORMER EMPLOYER IN COURT -- With a crackpot team of lawyers by his side, Ed goes to court over a contract scrawled on a bar napkin by four high school buddies. When one of the friends strikes it rich, a la Bill Gates, and denies the contract, he hires a big-city law firm as his counsel--which just happens to be the same firm that fired Ed. Meanwhile, Ed has the daunting task of finding a manager for Stuckeybowl and realizes his only choices are Phil, Kenny, or Shirley. Ed and Carol have agreed to just be friends, but Ed makes it hard when he sends her an "inspirational" video.

1.4 Pretty Girls And Waffles (Originally Aired 10/29/2000)
WHEN CAROL DISMISSES OUT-OF-SYNC BOYFRIEND, CAN ED FILL THE VOID? -- When Carol reaches the sobering conclusion that her longtime boyfriend (guest star Gregory Harrison, "Trapper John") just isn't spontaneous or fun-loving enough for her, she decides to break up with him -- which is lovely music to Ed's ears. Elsewhere: Ed represents an attractive woman (guest star Joanna Going) whose employer, a fast-talking used-car salesman (guest star Peter Gerety), is suing her; a humiliated Mike strongly resents being second-guessed by the crotchety Dr. Jerome (guest star Marvin Chatinover); and Molly enjoys casting the school musical with a handsome fellow teacher (guest star Christopher Sieber) until they disagree about the female lead.

1.5 Better Days (Originally Aired 11/5/2000)
THE SKY'S THE LIMIT FOR ED'S ABILITY TO WOO CAROL -- When Ed's cohorts advise him to remain friends with Carol, he makes another attempt to win over her newly broken heart, and later finds himself commiserating with Nick. Since attendance at Stuckeybowl has been low, Ed succumbs to Phil's idea for the first ever Stuckeybowl commercial and in true Phil style, he takes charge -- and creative license -- as director.

1.6 Home Is Where The Ducks Are (Originally Aired 11/12/2000)
ED TRIES TO SAVE THE REPUTATION OF STUCKEYVILLE -- In an effort to energize his reelection campaign, The Mayor of Stuckeyville, (guest star M. Emmet Walsh) has persuaded Ed to escort a travel and leisure critic throughout town and convince her that Stuckeyville isn't just your average small town. And to go the extra mile, Ed concocts the first ever "Festival of Ducks" to hopefully save the reputation of his quaint, and often quirky, hometown. Meanwhile, Nancy and Mike are starting to suffer through parenthood without a nanny and Nancy must choose between a promotion or keeping her family together. Phil on the other hand, takes his job of coaching Kevin Schwartz (guest star Samm Levine, "Freaks and Geeks") to the extreme, and Carol contemplates why she remains in Stuckeyville.

1.7 Something Old, Something New (Originally Aired 11/19/2000)
ED COOKS UP A NEW THANKSGIVING TRADITION WHEN HE INVITES FRIENDS TO HOLIDAY DINNER AT STUCKEYBOWL -- Now footloose and fancy-free, Ed decides to start his own Thanksgiving tradition by inviting Carol and all of his friends and their families for an unconventional dinner at the Stuckeybowl -- but he soon discovers that starting new traditions is more difficult than ending old ones. In the meantime, Ed agrees to represent an odd teenager (guest star Max Rosmarin) who is suing the owner (guest star John Randolph Jones) of an old lake shack after he was injured while breaking in on Halloween -- a rite-of-passage for many youths, including Ed many years before. Meanwhile, Mike frets about spending the holiday with his inexpressive father-in-law (guest star Christopher Murney).

1.8 The Whole Truth (Originally Aired 12/6/2000)
MOLLY'S GRANDFATHER RECRUITS ED TO WRITE HIS WILL AND HAS A SECRET HE'LL TAKE TO THE GRAVE -- Molly's grandfather Charlie (guest Edmund Lyndeck) has fallen ill, and she askes Ed to help with his last will and testament. When Charlie confides in Ed about his past, Ed becomes conflicted between his allegiance to his friend, Molly and his client, Charlie. Meanwhile, Dr. Burton has a little competition at the office when Dr. Jerome (guest Marvin Chatinover) brings in a charming doctor (guest Mark Deklin) to assist with the duties. Phil organizes the first open-mike night at Stuckeybowl and allows Shirley to help screen candidates.

1.9 Your Life Is Now (Originally Aired 12/20/2000)
GRANT SHOW ('MELROSE PLACE') GUEST STARS AS THE HIGH SCHOOL BOYFRIEND WHO BROKE CAROL'S HEART -- Carol's life is turned upside down when her former high school beau, Troy (guest star Grant Show, "Melrose Place"), decides to look her up while he's home for the holidays. When she hears how "perfect" his life is, she begins re-evaluating her own life and turns to Ed for advice, but Ed has his own ax to grind since Troy was his high school tormentor. Meanwhile, after spending an entire day at home waiting for a refrigerator delivery that never came, Ed exacts revenge on the appliance store, and ends up in court over the matter. Also, Phil decides to get Stuckeybowl into the holiday spirit in his own unique way.

1.10 Losing Streak (Originally Aired 1/10/2001)
ED'S PARENTS VISIT STUCKEYVILLE AND DISAPPROVE OF THEIR SON'S NEW LIFE AS A BOWLING ALLEY LAWYER -- Ed's parents, Alan (guest star Phillip Bosco) and Natalie Stevens (guest star Jane Summerhays), make a surprise visit to Stuckeyville, and Ed is hurt when they openly display their disappointment that he left his successful life in Manhattan to practice law in Stuckeyville. Meanwhile, Carol volunteers as coach of the failing girl's JV basketball team at the high school despite the fact that she's never played the game before. After Ed, Mike and Nancy give Carol some much-needed basketball lessons, she succeeds in lifting the spirits of the underachieving team. Also, Ed must defend three men who tricked their friend into believing he won $20 million in the lottery as a prank.

1.11 Opposites Distract (Originally Aired 1/17/2001)
WILL ED NICKEL-AND-DIME AN ATTRACTIVE LADY LAWYER WHEN HE DEFENDS GOOD SAMARITAN? -- Ed volunteers to represent a crotchety Good Samaritan (guest star Michael Mulheren) who is fined for plunking dimes into expired parking meters but the lawyer is matched in court by a beautiful, ambitious assistant district attorney (guest star Rena Sofer, "Melrose Place") -- and their heated interaction sets off sparks. Not surprisingly, Carol can't help but notice their attraction as she finds herself drawn closer to Ed when they make a whimsical bet over his plumbing prowess. Elsewhere, Nancy is offered a promotion but wonders how it will affect her quality time with her infant daughter.

1.12 Hook, Line And Sinker (Originally Aired 1/24/2001)
SEXY LADY LAWYER EXTENDS PROFESSIONAL -- AND PERSONAL -- COURTESY TO ED; RENA SOFER GUEST-STARS -- Ed gears up for an appeal of his parking meter case until his sexy opponent -- the assistant district attorney -- drops the case and unexpectedly asks him out, which irritates Carol because she thinks Ed automatically assumed she would be jealous. In the meantime, Ed also represents a downtrodden life insurance salesman (guest star Ernie Sabella) whose new boss (guest star Gregg Edelman) callously decides to fire him based on what a fast-talking bass novelty toy will say next. In addition, Mike is convinced his matronly babysitter (guest star Teresa Yenque) has eyes for him and Phil's latest scheme is to invite the cast of "Happy Days" to Stuckeybowl to drum up business.

1.13 The Music Box (Originally Aired 2/7/2001)
Ed is torn between his longing for Carol and his budding romance with the beautiful assistant district attorney Bonnie but his relationships really get awkward when he tries to retrieve Carol's expensive stolen music box by pushing Bonnie to get involved -- allowing the two women to finally meet and size each other up.

1.14 Valentine's Day (Originally Aired 2/14/2001)
Ed represents a dedicated reverend (Emmy Award-winning guest star Charles Dutton, "Roc," "The Corner") whose church president wants to terminate him after 30 years because he feels the clergyman's preaching style is outdated while Ed must decide whether to spend Valentine's Day with Carol -- or the attractive assistant district attorney. Elsewhere in Stuckeyville, enterprising Phil launches a mismatched speed-dating club for love-starved local yokels.

1.15 Loyalties (Originally Aired 2/20/2001)
JOHN GOODMAN GUEST-STARS AS FORMER OWNER OF STUCKEYBOWL -- Ed senses trouble when Big Rudy (guest star John Goodman, "Roseanne"), the back-slapping former owner of Stuckeybowl, ambles back into town and admires Ed's improvements to the joint so much that he wants to buy it back -- but the good ol' boy won't take 'no' for an answer. Elsewhere: Ed's fast-track romance with Bonnie takes a detour when she's offered an exciting job in Washington, D.C.; Carol reluctantly ends up 'dating' a handsome young man (guest star David Eigenberg) whom Molly has been eyeing; in court, Ed represents a songwriting female rocker (guest star Paige Price) who was kicked out of her band; and Big Rudy seeks an ally in Phil, his former bowling alley employee.

1.16 Live Deliberately (Originally Aired 2/28/2001)
ED SEIZES THE DAY WITH ADVENTUROUS CLIENT WHO GOES FOR THE GUSTO -- Ed frets that he's aging far too fast as he shepherds a middle-aged client (guest star Kevin Pollak) whose near-death experience re-vitalizes him so much that he vows to live life to the fullest at every turn -- even if it means bumping heads with the law. While Ed is obsessed with matching any deed or athletic achievement from his teenaged years, current high school student Warren (Justin Long) tries to impress Jessica (guest star Robin Paul) with his studious knowledge of Henry David Thoreau's simplified lifestyle. In addition, the ever-enterprising Phil urges Ed to cut him in on a percentage of Stuckeybowl's profits.

1.17 Exceptions (Originally Aired 3/28/2001)
CAROL ASKS ED TO CHAMPION HER TEACHER'S PET -- BUT WILL HE DEFECT TO THE OTHER SIDE? -- Carol recruits Ed to argue on behalf of her prized student (guest star Martin Starr, "Freaks & Geeks"), a brainiac whose failing grade in gym class could derail his scholarship to a prestigious college -- but upon further review, Ed risks her wrath when he not only agrees with the stubborn gym coach (guest star Michael Gaston), but switches to become his lawyer in a civil suit. Meanwhile, Mike's professional skills as a doctor are challenged when he is humiliated by his older, more sadistic colleague, Dr. Jerome (guest star Marvin Chatinover), and Shirley coaxes a skeptical Ed to give her a tryout as his official legal assistant.

1.18 The Test (Originally Aired 4/4/2001)
ED GOES TO BAT FOR FORMER GIRLFRIEND WHO SUSPECTS HUBBA-HUBBY OF CHEATING -- Heads turn when Ed represents his former high school girlfriend (guest star Sarah Lively) after she suspects her husband (guest star Tom Riis Farrell ) of cheating on her and hires a sexy woman (guest star Crystal Allen) to test him. Elsewhere: Carol launches a campaign to win back school funding for the high school's music program and its veteran teacher (guest star Anne Meara, "Fame") when budget cuts make it expendable; an uneasy Nancy suspects that her nanny (guest star Teresa Yenque) isn't qualified to take care of her baby and intends to find out more about her.

ED STEVENS -- LOVER, LAWYER, BOWLER -- AND MARRIAGE COUNSELOR? -- A concerned Ed urges Carol to help him convince a carefree young couple (guest stars Brian Geraghty, Amy Spanger) from tying the knot in his bowling alley on a whim because he fears they haven't taken the time to properly know each other for the long run. Meanwhile, Ed goes to court on behalf of an excessively overweight man (guest star Del Pentecost) who seeks a restraining order against his well-intentioned brother (guest star Shawn Powell) who resorts to outright bullying to prevent his sibling from eating himself into an early grave. In addition, moony Warren confronts his teen angst -- and hormones -- when he finally asks out Donna Tozzi (guest star Tessa Ghylin).

ED SEEKS TO ENSHRINE STUCKEYBOWL IN HISTORY WITH LANDMARK STATUS -- Worried that Stuckeybowl might not outlast him, Ed wants the bowling alley designated as a landmark that will preserve its recreational status forever while he represents an arthritic friend (guest star Ray Aranha) who was hornswoggled when he unknowingly shelled out big money for sugar pills from a doctor (guest star Jamie Goodwin ). Elsewhere, Molly chills her promising new relationship with a hunk (guest star David Eigenberg) when she learns that her beau had first asked out Carol, while Ed welcomes a group of oldtimers who annually rent out the lanes for a reunion.

1.21 Mixed Signals (Originally Aired 5/16/2001)
While wheeler-dealer Phil puts his latest scheme into motion with "Vega$ Night" at the bowling alley, Carol disputes Ed's well-intended advice to nerdy Warren urging him to abandon caution and ask out the girl of his dreams to the school prom. Meanwhile, Ed represents a teed-off golfer who blew a match's prize money on the last putt when a nearby fan heckled him. In addition, Mike is reluctantly drafted into arranging a tribute banquet to honor the despicable Dr. Jerome.
