For the wise Mac user:Download this (2k .bin encoded) alias to get direct folder access to the public folder at our iDisk delivered by Apple iTools. .hqx version available here. |
Download sectionOpen the downloads window (cross-platform) .hqx vs.. BinBin or MacBinary II is a way of encoding files to a document containing just a binary stream. This way, no data is lost on other system. The Macintosh files contains a file header for the name, creator, filetype and a set of flags. The data fork normally contains the primary information of the file like image data in an image file, text in a word processing document, etc. The resources contains obviously all the resources like preview images, icons, menu bar and window information for applications. These two forks, along with the header are encoded into a simple binary stream that can be stored on any system without data loss. .hqx or BinHex takes the encoding even further; it converts all the information to ASCII characters which are compatible on all systems. This can be used when posting to non-binary newsgroups and mail systems without file corruption or data loss. If you're running an old computer with old software it may not be able to decode it. Select the HQX files. If you are running newer systems, select the BIN files when they are available. If I'm wrong here, mail me so I can fix it. I cant have wrong information on my web page. |
