Only the French....

You must be joking

L’Effroyable Imposture (The Frightening Deception):

O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.
— Voltaire, 1767

Thierry Meyssan, president and founder of French leftist-group Reseau Voltaire , probably has Voltaire rolling in his grave.

As reported by National Review Editor James Robbins, "Meyssan comes to the shocking conclusion that the Pentagon was not hit by American Airlines Flight 77." The book goes on to outline an elaborate conspiracy theory in which the United States government destroys its own facility, killing its own people.

According to a recent statement from Reseau Voltaire , “As everyone knows, on September 11, less than an hour after the attack on the World Trade Centre, an airplane collided with the Pentagon. The Associated Press first reported that a booby-trapped truck had caused the explosion. The Pentagon quickly denied this. The official US government version of events still holds.”

How many other versions of "events" do you want? So a truck bombed the Pentagon? Then where is Flight 77? Last time I checked, planes don't just disappear. The Bermuda Triangle is nowhere even close to Washington D.C.

Let us not forget that we are talking about France here. L’Effroyable Imposture is a best-seller , selling more than 100,000 copies a week . Spreading ignorance like you have no idea...

Sadly, the ignorance is already taking root in the minds of the French population. President Jacques Chirac, wielding one of 5 UN vetoes, is firmly against any movement against Iraq. Even after President George Bush's State of the Union Address , in which he provided convincing evidence that Iraq is still hiding chemical and biological weapons, Chirac refuses to acknowledge that Iraq is not cooperating with UN inspectors.

The United States, with the backing of the rest of Europe, is committed to action with or without UN approval. According to Jed Babbin, a former deputy undersecretary of defense, "going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. You just leave a lot of useless noisy baggage behind."

Even so, the French opposition in the UN will likely delay any resolution for several months.

In the Media:

Regis Philbin: "The only time France wants us to go to war is when the German Army is sitting in Paris sipping coffee."

Jacques Chirac: "As far as I'm concerned, war always means failure"
Rush Limbaugh: "As far as France is concerned, you're right."

Conan O'Brien: "You know why the French don't want to bomb Saddam Hussein? Because he hates America, he loves mistresses and wears a beret. He is French, people."

Jay Leno: "I don't know why people are surprised that France won't help us get Saddam out of Iraq. After all, France wouldn't help us get the Germans out of France!"

David Letterman: "The last time the French asked for 'more proof' it came marching into Paris under a German flag."
