Congressman Charles Rangel is a snake
Reinstating the Draft:
Terrorism is horrible. Terrorism utilizes fear to influence public opinion. Charles Rangel is a terrorist.
By reinstating the draft, Charles Rangel is attempting to hold the youth of America hostage. In his own words: "I believe that if those calling for war knew their children were more likely to be required to serve — and to be placed in harm's way — there would be more caution." Rangel is trying to place America's youth in the line of fire.
Columnist Oliver Willis writes, "A government that compels one to die for a cause one may not believe in is not a free government, and if the government isn't free... it isn't American." Should the draft be reinstated, the United States will stoop to the level of oppression and injustice that we fought against in Afghanistan.
Rangel's platform is based on the assumption that, and I quote, "the Armed forces provide a place for poor white trash, Latinos and Blacks, [and] that they will be disproportionately killed in a war with Iraq or with anyone else for that matter." That is just sick. The United States Military is a symbol of pride, honor and opportunity. HOW DARE Rangel, or anyone else, make such an assumption.
In every American war since the integration of our Armed Forces, blacks have fought proudly and courageously. Neither minority members, nor any other Americans, are dumped into the military. One black Navy pilot, when interviewed, said "This is the business we chose." They are exactly that - professional soldiers. War is their job . I am disgusted that Rangel would tarnish their courage or dignity by implying that they were dumped into the Armed Forces.
Charles Rangel's proposal to reinstate the draft is a travesty of American ideals. Clearly, the United States has as many enemies within its borders as it does abroad.
