Oppose the "War on Drugs"
1.The "war on drugs" is counterproductive. It has done nothing to solve the drug problem- in fact, it excacerbated it. The prohibition of alcohol was such a failure that Americans should have figured out that laws against drugs cause people to use them more recklessly , more often, etc. But another ideology came along- racist drug wars.
2The reason why cocaine and opium were prohibited was because of propaghanda which claimed that Chinese immigrants, high on opium, were stealing jobs from Americans, and thatb white women were being raped by "cocaine crazed negroes". Much of this propaghanda came from Harry J. Anslinger, the Head of the Federal Beaurea of Narcotis.
3But by the 1920s, Anslinger had changed his story- it was now "marijuana crazed negroes" raping white women, luring them in with their "voodoo-Satanic" jazz music.
4.There was also much racism against Mexicans. In fact, the word "marijuana" is a slang term used by Pancho Villa's rebels, who gave timberland back to the Mexican people after it had been stolen by American tabloid chain owner William Randolph Hearst.
4Hearst was so racist that his tabliods had titles such as; "Marijuana: Assassin of Youth", "Marijuana: Devil's Weed with Roots in Hell," "Marijuana Makes Feinds of 30 Days", "Hasheesh Goads Users to Blood Lust", etc.
5.This propaghanda fooled the government into passing the Marihuana Tax Act in 1937, having no idea what "marijuana" was. They did not know it was cannnabis, which all had been given as medicine since they were infants. Nor did they know that a marijuana prohibition would destroy the hemp industry.
6.1 acre of hemp produces as much paper as 4.1 acres of trees, and hemp does not use the harmful chemicals used in tree-paper production. The paper is better.
7.Unlike non-organic cotton, which uses 50% of the world's ozone-depleting pesticides, hemp can be grown without any pesticides, and the cloth is better.
8.Hemp ropes are still the strongest in the world, and this is why all ships are rigged with them to this day; any other rope would eventually rot at sea.
9.Hemp seed is the msot nutritious food in the world- full of protein that is easier to digest than any other protein, Riboflavin, dietary fiber, essential fatty acids, and various other vitamins and minerals.
10.The tobacco industry and the government claim that cannabis is "more" carcinogenic than tobacco. This is because it contains "more' carcinogens, butn they are all in very miniscule amounts, whereas tobacco contains massive amounts of a few "less" carcinogens. No one has ever gotten cancer or eymphaseema (sp?) from cannabis alone. For example, Rastafarians who smoke only cannabis usually live to reach an old age, and die with fewer wrinkles because they were less stressed in their lives. The tar is not what causes cancer, it is only a contributing favtor. Unlike cannabis, the tobacco plant is radioactive. It produces phosphorus (sp?).
11.As for the nonsense about cannabis "killing brain cells", Ronald Reagan made that nonsense up in 1974 as a justification for the prohibition of cannabis. The "study" which provided "evidence" of this falsehood is now laughed at by real doctors and real scientists. NORML and Playboy had to use the Freedom of Information Act for 6 years to sue the government before the information about how the "study" was performed was made available to the public. The researches laughed at its methodology. "Dr." Heath tortured rhesus monkeys by strapping gas masks to their face so tight that they inhaled only massive amounts of smoke- no oxygen. Oxygen deprivation always kills braincells.
12.Unlike tobacco, which constricts bronchial tubes and can cause asthma attacks, cannabis dialates bronchial tubes, thus one "hit" can stop a full-blown asthma attack. Tobacco and its associated dangers have duped so many people into believing that smoking anything is harmful. Most people haven't heard of Yerba Santra, Colt's Foot, Horehound, or any other herb which has been traditionally smoked to heal the lungs, like cannabis. There are lung irritants involved in any smoke, but cannabis causes only mild irritation to the larger, stronger airways of the lungs; whereas tobacco causes severe irritation to the small airways of the lungs. The chance of even getting bronchitis (sp?) from cannabis is miniscule.
13.Why clog the prisons with these people?
14.Why cause massive deforestation and starvation in Colombia in the name of a "drug war"?
15.And how dare they do such atrocities to the terminally ill, denied their medical necessity?
