The Right Reflection Explanation

Hello! Welcome to another edition of "Matt explains his songs." So this song is, duh, a love song to Amy once again. Except it's a little bit "dark" and "morbid." That's because I've been listening to a lot of Senses Fail, and all of their songs are pretty... anti-love. As the lead singer himself said, it's easiest to write when inspired to hate. So I wrote what I feel is sort of a foil song to their songs. When I look at the lyrics I'm actually kind of reminded of Say Anything's "A Walk Through Hell" and "Alive With The Glory Of Hell," and while by no means does this song sound anything like those two songs... the lyrics give that Max Bemis hint.

The title of the song refers to a mirror and looking into it and seeing what you hate most: yourself. For a long time in my life (personal alert) I would look in the mirror and be forced to flip my reflection off because I saw what I hated more than anything in the world staring at me unforgivingly. But when I found someone else who I could look at and feel like I was looking at a version of myself, and to not hate that person, is what I dub "the right reflection." It's just basic symbolism to finally finding something in the world that makes you happy and being satisfied.
