Love And Hate Are Both Four Letter Words

Ugh... I hate this song. But I put it here because this is where my songs are going to live now. When I started dating Amy a friend of mine got angry because they were infatuated with Amy as well. I had been angry at this friend for some time now anyway and didn't feel any remorse about upsetting my old friend.

november hit me like a ton of bricks
a wave of new emotions
i'd been dead for a while

I wanted this song to have a "Great Romances Of The 20th Century" feel to it when I started writing. The "I'd been dead for a while" relates to my adversity to other human life forms after a horrible relationship that is dealt with in another song.

its funny how emotions
welded deep inside of you
can pour out so rapid and undisposed

This is in reference to how I had liked Amy since 8th grade, but it had died down a bit in the two years I hadn't seen her. Then all of a sudden, I hear she likes me, and WHAM BAM my feelings were back.

seventy times seven means forgiveness
and there's no i in team
but sometimes nothing can even fit
and sometimes the best way to deal with life
is to rock out on the piano
and remember she's with me

There are SO many songs about best friends fucking with you like "Seventy Times 7" by Brand New and "There's No 'I' In Team" by Taking Back Sunday, but no matter what, I couldn't find a song that captured how I was feeling towards my friend. So I banged a lot on my piano in frustration. The only comfort I had was Amy.

take away my name, reduce me to a word
of what i once was and can never be

My friend, when writing a journal entry online about Amy or I, would never write our names. Amy was SP as in Said Person because my friend wrote a lot in reference to Amy, and I became reduced from Matt to The Friend.

sending unsent letters out in the mail
dear me, dear you
it's all the same anyway
with a knife in the back feeling is irrelevant

(you did all these things i hated)

I created an online journal filled with letters I wrote to my friend and didn't wanna send. There were other letters in there too, but the majority were to my friend. The last to lines are in reference to Silverstein songs. The knife in the back is a reference to "Smashed Into Pieces" and 'you did all these things I hated' is directly from "Hear Me Out."

So this is the final letter to you
Last night was a stress reliever
Last night was venting to no one
Not that you ever listened to me anyway
my parting words to you have changed
from "You know I love you, but goodbye.. I'm sorry"
to "Deal with your shit and die."

The breakdown to this song was taken directly from a letter I wrote to my friend. No changes in words. Just the exact thing.
