Name: Hermione Granger (Her-my-ah-knee Gray-n-jer)
Name Meaning: Hermione is a Greek name, meaning eloquence.
"JK Rowling chose the name Hermione from a Shakespeare play, "A Winter's Tale," although she says that the characters are not at all similar. She thought it made sense for a couple of professional dentists to name their only daughter something like that to show how clever they were. But she chose a very unusual name because she worried that, if there were a real child somewhere who was bright and had larger-than-usual front teeth that had the same name, she might get teased."
Age: As of book 5, Hermione will be 15
Birthday: September 19th
Zodiac Sign: Virgo
Hair: Brown and supposedly extremely bushy.
Eyes: Brown (though some say blue or green or quite possibly hazel)
House: Gryffindor
Year: As of the 5th book, Hermione will be in her fifth year.
Familier: A ginger tom-cat, named Crookshanks
Appearance
"She had a bossy sort of voice, lots of bushy brown hair, and rather large front teeth." Hermione's front teeth got shrunk to normal size in Book 4, so you can just take away the 'rather large front teeth' part.
Hermione Granger is seen as the typical do-gooder, bookworm. She appears to be the leading lady of Harry Potter, one of the only girls featured in the series.
She is the first witch of the Granger family, her parents are both Muggles and work as dentists.
Hermione is a hard worker and is extremely well-read, which easily makes her the brightest witch in her year (quite possibly of all time). She spends hours in the library, going over each and every book (though she seems to always be reading Hogwarts, A History) and before she even got to Hogwarts Hermione read all of her text books. She supposedly checks both Ron and Harry's homework for mistakes but she never lets them copy. She barely has any trouble with her classes, but did have a few problems in her third year with Divination class and in first year during her flying lesson.
Hermione is usually more worried about getting hurt or expelled from Hogwarts then she is of going on all those late-night adventures, but she usually ends up going off with Ron and Harry anyways. Good for them, too, as Hermione seems to be an extremely important resource to the boys when they're in a tight spot (it was she who casted the Alohomora charm and she can set portable fires, as well). Her cool logic and quick mind have saved she, Harry, and Ron several times.
Hermione enjoys doing all she can to help the Underdog (or cat... Xx). She usually ends up helping Neville with his classes and bought her cat, Crookshanks, because no one else wanted him. She spent hours preparing a defense for Buckbeak and, in her fourth year, began a campaign to free the houselves from their thankless jobs.
