The Division Returns Home !
On March 19, 2003, President Bush confirmed military operations to disarm Iraq and free its people hasbegun.
The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom for nearly a year to help vanquish the regime of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. Saddam Hussein and most of his key henchmen were captured or killed, and today, even though much dangerous work remains, Iraq is on the road to forming a free and democratic society.
Of course, this work extracted a mighty toll - 60 Fort Campbell soldiers have been lost during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and scores more have been wounded.
The advanced party of the Division arrived at Fort Campbell from Iraq on January 11, 2004.
Their mission was to prepare for the arrival of the rest of the Screaming Eagles over the next few weeks.
The FREEDOM BIRDS landed at Ft. Campbell.
