The girl put her hand on his chin. She had an odd aura... one that seemed unusual to her... a happy one. Not in a smile, or laugh... she was just plain happy. Angelic wings sprouted from her back, slowly, like a growing plant. The girl smiled finally, reassuring him that she was happy to see him. "Good bye." She uttered, and finally took her hand away from his face, leaving a warmth on his skin. He reached for her arm as it contracted to her waist. "No... No... You can't go, not yet!" He pleaded. A tear rolled down her cheek. It was odd... When she cried, she looked like she was laughing. But she wasn't... Her bright, warm aura had dimmed a small bit at his words. "Good bye... Vash." With her new wings, she took off into the starlit night, leaving new stars were she flew...
At that instant, he woke up. He wiped his sweaty face and noticed tears on his face... Tears. He had been crying. He knew the girl in his dream... It was Veggie. But she was different. She was happy... If one knew Veggie, you would say she wasn't like some type of overly-happy schoolgirl. She had always seemed sad. That, and Vash remembered numeral times when she had asked to be killed. He had seen her smile and laugh... It was when they had first met. He was the one thing that made her happy...
And he killed her.
Her brother, legato, had powers to control others. Vash had been sleeping that night, when Legato snook up on him and forced him to kill her. When he relized what he had done, he broke free of Legato's powers. It was bad enough to Vash he was still alive, after all the torment he had received from sinning and 'killing' him. Now he had to relive that pain. He knew that he could do something to make up for his sin, but this was personal. Veggie had been a dear friend...
And he killed her.
The same words repeated over and over, until interrupted by a knock on the door. Kagome stepped in, eyes closed. "Vash, it's time to wa-" her expression softened as she opened her eyes and examined him, tears still running down his face though slowly, trying to hold in his emotions so as not to disturb others.
Before he could think, she swooped down on him and wrapped her arms around him. He had never been hugged like this before... It was a type of embrace that allowed him to release his emotions, his fears, his sorrows... Everything. He returned it, arching his back a bit to rest head of her shoulder, a difficult task as he was a foot or two taller than her. He sobbed into her for awhile, until the shoulder of her shirt was soaked before speaking. "She said... she said goodbye..." He croaked, his voice hoarse from sleep. He swallowed the small amount of moisture left in his mouth and spoke, clearer this time. "She said good bye, in this dream I had..." Kagome affectionately fluffed his messy, half-spiked hair. "Maybe it wasn't a dream... maybe her spirit was trying to reach out to you, say good bye, and forgive you..." Vash hugged tighter. "But... But she didn't forgive me." Kagome thought for a moment before answering. "She didn't need to, Vash. because you didn't kill her... Legato did, he only controlled you." Vash gulped down more saliva, and spoke, breathing heavily. "But it was by my hand... I know how to brak off his control... I was careless." At that moment, Kagome punched him in the back. Hard. "You were asleep, dummy. You're no more careless than the lord, even he needs rest... Legato did it, and that's final. Anymore guilty feelings, and I will give you the beating of a lifetime, despite the fact you look like an adorable two year old sobbing over spilt juice when you cry like this." She flashed him a grin and walked out of the room, raven hair swinging behind her.
Vash mouthed silently, than managed a rough smile. He got up and walked into the bathroom. He looked into the reflection looking back at him and smiled. "Today, my friend, is a day for new begginings..." And with that, he undressed for a shower. He looked at the tub of hair gel he used daily. "...and new hair gel." He added dully.
