I know a lot of you don't like reading long
topics, so here's a sum up: These green kids appeared, like, out of
nowhere, man! Then these English people were all like "We like tea
and crumpets." and these green kids, they were like "j00 all
suxxorz! we don't speak english, and we don't know how to eat
anything but beans!" And then the English people were all like "OMG!
STFU!" And then the green boy died and the green girl turned
white.
Now you know enough to post, and you can ignore the rest of the topic if you're lazy.
The following is from (http://anomalyinfo.com/articles/sa00022.shtml). It has been modified slightly for conciseness. If you're interested in reading the texts mentioned, they can be found on the site.
As a side note, this is Woolpit's web site: (www.woolpit.org). They have a section on the story posted there.
Sometime between the years 1135 A.D. and 1154 A.D., two strange children were found near Woolpit, England.
Workers were harvesting their fields when they heard frightened cries; investigating, they discovered two children, a boy and a girl, terrified and huddled near a pit. They were screaming in a unknown language, and their clothes were made of a strange looking, unknown material... but stranger still, the children's skin was green.
The two were taken to the home of a man named Richard de Calne, where the local populace attempted to take care of them... but the children refused to eat or drink anything that was offered until someone brought in some fresh bean stalks. The children eagerly grabbed these and opened the stalks; and when they saw these empty, they started to cry. When shown that the beans were in the pods instead, the children quickly ate their fill and ate nothing else for some time after.
Soon after they were found, the boy sickened and died; but the girl became healthy and hearty, eventually losing the green hue to her skin. When she learned the local language, what she told of her origins only deepened the mystery. She said that she and her brother had come from a land with no sun; the people there, all green, lived in a perpetual twilight. When she was asked how she had come to be found outside the pit, she could only say that she and her brother had heard bells, become entranced... then the two of them were in the pit and could see the light from the mouth of it. She also said that their land was called St. Martin's land, and that the people there were Christians.
Though the girl lived long after her discovery, eventually marrying a local man, she was never able to give any further help in solving the mystery of her and her brother's origins and odd arrival in Woolpit.
Though the story of the Green Children of Woolpit can be found in a large number of books today with just a little effort, the actual number of sources for the story can be quickly narrowed down to just a handful of earlier texts... to be precise, three: two from around the year 1200, and the last from 1850. The first two accounts, written around fifty/sixty years after the time the event is said to have occurred, are 'Historia Rerum Anglicarum' by William of Newburgh, and 'Chronicon Aglicanum' by Ralph of Coggeshall Abbey. The last of these three texts is Thomas Keightley's 'The Fairy Mythology', which presents a translation of Ralph's account of the Green Children and mentions some details from William's account.

Janitor's thoughts on the green
children:
Greenness:
Beta-carotene is an orange pigment found in such foods as carrots and pumpkins, and if consumed in excess, it will turn human skin orange. However, you'd need to eat an insanely high amount of it. Say, eat nothing but carrots for two weeks. If you stop eating carrots, your skin will gradually return to its normal hue.
Clearly the green children did have a different from what we are familiar with. The accounts tell us that they were offered many kinds of food which they did not eat, although they were obviously very hungry. Finally someone brought in beanstalks, which they requested for in sign, splitting open the stalks rather than the pods, and they were disappointed when they found no food there.
From this, we can gather that they live on a diet largely consisting of something found in the insides of stalks resembling beans.
I suggest that the people of St. Martin’s land take in a lot of a green pigment from their stalk foods, and that accounts for the color of their skin.
Saints & Christianity:
The green children claimed to be from St. Martin's land, where the people practiced Christianity. This means that the people there know both of Jesus and of St. Martin.
An average man produces 3,650,000,000 sperm in one lifetime, and an average woman produces 360 ova in her lifeftime, making the probability of any one of us being conceived 1:1,314,000,000,000. That's insanely low. Add that to the probability of your parents being born, and of meeting each other, and it becomes even more so insanely small. The probability of both Jesus and St. Martin being born in two parallel dimensions is so miniscule that for the sake of my theory, it can be considered zero.
This leaves three possibilities:
A. There was previous contact between our worlds between 397 AD (death of Martin of Tours) and 1200 AD (around the time the green children arrived).
B. Someone went back in time and altered the timeline between the aforementioned dates resulting in two seperate timelines that branched apart at some point around a thousand years ago.
C. The people of Woolpit were leading the green children on with their questioning. "Are you a Christian? You know of course that if you're not, we'll have to burn you for witchcraft."
Twilight & Land of Light:
The green children claimed to be from a world of perpetual twilight, although a bright country could be seen across a river from theirs. They also noted the change in temperature when they passed into our world.
Logical conclusion: the live in the Arctic Circle near a city with artificial lighting.

I posted this topic as the first topic I ever
created on this board. Ahh the memories.
But as to the green children, I would go for teh townspeople leading them on and more then that, since they werent at all very smart back then, I figure the answers tehy did get, they misunderstood Or, they may have said Saint Martin, or something similar sounding but to them, they took what tehy know so they didnt ahve to know christianity, they just needed t say something that the iggnorant townspeople count believe was christian. Now, I'm not sure on the exact dates, but I think that was either before or during the crusades, at which time not even knights could read and most science was banned cause it was against god. These are the people those unique kids were dealing with. Most likely the story of there arrival wasnt written down till many years after they were gone.

During the crusades, I believe.
These are the people those unique kids were dealing with. Most likely the story of there arrival wasnt written down till many years after they were gone.
Radulphi of Coggeshall wrote his account a minimum of 46 years after the Green Children were supposed to have been found, presumably by interviewing Sir Richard de Calne, the noble who took the green girl in as a servant.
William of Newburgh's account was also written many years later, based on stories of eyewitnesses.
There is supposedly a third account written by Gervase of Tilbury, although to my knowledge, it is yet to be found.

they were probably from Atlantis...
Atlantis is rumored to be lost somewhere in the ocean. The arctic circle is mostly Ocean, so they were probably from that region. Therefore, if my theory is correct, Atlantis is located near Atlantis or Antarctica because of the lack of sunlight.
My other theory is that they could be from the "forgotten relms" series. Anyone know about Drizzt Do'Urden? Well in the underdark it's well...Dark! so yah. What do you all think?

Yeah, I left for a few months, and recently I've mostly been lurking. I might be stuck in reruns for a long time. I'm not good at finding much new material.

Well thanks. I've never heard that before. Seems like most people around here consider orlock to be the messiah of P/C. ^_^
