The life story of the psion calling himself Rhian is both tangled and incomplete. The psion known as Rhint was originally a promising, somewhat egotistical student at the Rolagund Academy for the Mental Arts. Due to a secretive, generation-spanning eugenics program instigated by the chronomancer Xanalar, Rhint's psionic abilities were far more advanced than any other known psychic. Even more potent than his psychic abilities, however, was Rhint's ambition. Through psionic suggestions and domination, Rhint was able to lead his fellow students in an attempted coup of the Academy, which was eventually put down by two of the Academy's professors. Realizing that his plan had failed, Rhint launched a retaliatory attack upon the professors, slaying them both, but not before he was morally wounded himself. As he breathed his last, Rhint transferred his mental patterns to a nearby wailing baby...the child of the professors he had just slain. Sure that his mind would rise again, Rhint died with a grin on his face.

Unbeknownst to Rhint, however, was that the professors had, in their last moments of life, transferred their own minds into a neaby gem. Thus, as their child grew older, they were constantly at his side, curbing the destructive urges of Rhint's personality with their own tenderness and love. This affection and caring combined with the raw knowledge and power which Rhint had burned into the child's mind, creating an independant individual who called himself Rhian. By his 15th birthday, Rhian had already learned everything he could from the Academy which had raised him. Following the strange voices locked within his psicrystal, Rhian left the secluded psions and began to travel the world, in search of greater power.

Rhian soon joined the Crimson Eagles adventuring group, where his psychic abilities began to fully blossom. As his powers grew, Rhian found that the personality of Rhint was attempting to manifest amidst his subconscious, causing him to give in to his more violent urges. As this personality fragment began to grow in power, Rhian realized that he had to act fast to prevent Rhint's persona from overwhelming his own. By diving deep within his own subconscious, Rhian was able to purge Rhint's persona from his mind, but at a terrible cost; the minds of his parents sacrificed themselves to guard Rhian from Rhint's final desperate attack. For good or ill, Rhian finally became his own person on that day.

Rhian soon learned the reason for the Chronomancer's meddling with his ancestors; an impossibly powerful Planeswalker known as Brahms was destined to destroy Migdalia, draining it of all magic and psionics until the entire Plane collapsed from the stress. The Crimson Eagles were ready as Brahms appeared on their Plane, and Rhian used the psionic artifact known as the Annulus to unmake the psionic Planeswalker. Seconds before victory, however, Rhian was dealt a mortal blow, and would have fallen were it not for the sacrifice of Aelaer Ironleaf. Aelaer grabbed the Annulus and opened his previously closed mind to Rhian, who used the power of the Annulus to swap bodies with the noble warrior. Brahms was destroyed and the Annulus shattered, but Rhian remained trapped within Aelaer's body.

Currently, Rhian still possesses Aelaer Ironleaf's body. He stands almost six and a half feet tall, with the lean, muscular body of an experienced warrior. His brown hair is frequently tousled, and his green eyes shine with intelligence. Rhian has strong opinions about most every topic, and has no compunction against sharing them with anyone standing nearby. He loathes travelling, and makes extensive use of both psionic teleport and dimension door. Most recently Rhian has been obsessed with becoming a deity, more specifically the God of Psionics. His ambition even caused him to become Marrok's "Herald of Death," with the intention of slaying the God of Death and usurping his divine powers. Rhian has since realized that he underestimated Marrok's cunning and sheer power, and has moved on to a far more subtle plan. By burning his mind and personality into the brain of a child, he can lock away his psionic powers until the child has become adept at manipulating divine energy; at that time, he will eradicate his psionic lock, and the flood of power will elevate him to godhood. Or so he hopes. In this way, Rhian's history has come full circle...

Combat

In combat, Rhian is a highly mobile, destructive weapon. He combines the use of highly damaging, heavily augmented psionic powers with dimension door, and rarely remains in the same place for more than a few seconds. In more subtle encounters, Rhian typically acts through whichever thrall he happens to be controlling, entering battle only once his unwilling minion has fallen. Regardless of the circumstances, Rhian always has at least three contingency plans should he be slain, ensuring that he does not stay dead for long.
