Gregor Stoutbelly, known as "The Giantslayer" to his fellow dwarves, has led an interesting life. Born to an exiled dwarven clan, Gregor managed to clear the name of his ancestor, Varshnag the Betrayer, and was welcomed back into the lands of his fellow dwarves. Once within Druskeden, however, Gregor stumbled across corruption in the monarchy, and, together with his companions, the Crimson Eagles, slew the shape-changing devil who had secretly ruled the dwarven lands for centuries.Upon slaying a vampiric giant who was ravaging the northern roads of Druskeden, Gregor was awarded the title of "Hero of Druskeden," and the designation of "The Giantslayer." A dozen more giants fell to Gregor's axe in the next two years, as he and his companions fought against the tyranny of the devils who continued to hold Druskeden in their grip. When their investigations came too close to revealing the truth, the devils fled, giving Gregor the opportunity to step up as the new King of the dwarven people.
Unbeknownst to his subjects, Gregor took control of Druskeden not out of a desire to rule, but in order to save the dwarves from a future threat. An encounter with the chronomancer Xanalar revealed that a terrible dragon, capable of rusting metal upon contact, was destined to destroy the dwarves in little more than 120 years. Never one to wait quietly for death, Gregor returned to the present, and began to prepare for the battle who knew was coming. When the dragon arrives to destroy Druskeden, it will find Gregor...and his children...waiting.
Gregor stands four and a half feet tall, with deeply tanned skin and emerald-green eyes. His entire body is criss-crossed with scars, most of which he earned while adventuring with the Crimson Eagles. As a devout worshiper of Nyrgund, Gregor rarely goes unarmored, and his specially-crafted mithril double-plate armor is typically polished to gleaming quality. Gregor wears his hair and beard long and braided, in the distinctive style of the Stoutbelly Clan. Though his adventuring days are behind him, he continues to wear the embroidered red cape which the designated him as a member of the Crimson Eagles adventuring party.
Combat
In combat, Gregor is the rock upon which his opponents are smashed. Though slow to enter melee due to his speed, each blow from his urglosh means death for his enemies. An experienced warrior, Gregor is quick to exploit any advantages offered to him by the terrain, and rarely find himself in a tactically awkward situation. Having died at least half a dozen times, Gregor has lost all fear of death, and fights with a tenacity and unrelenting rhythm that invariably results in victory.
Combat Abilities
Giant and Dragon Enmity (Ex): Gregor gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls made against creatures of the giant or dragon type.
Axe Throw (Ex): Gregor may use any axe as a thrown weapon with a range increment of 30 feet. He takes no additional penalty for using his weapon in this fashion.
Axe Return (Su): Any axe thrown by Gregor gains the returning special ability. A returning weapon flies through the air back to him, returning just before his next turn, so that it is ready to use that turn.
Catching the weapon as it returns is a free action for Gregor. If he cannot catch the weapon, or has moved since throwing it, the weapon drops to the ground in the square from which it was thrown.
Foehunter (Su): As a move action once per day, Gregor may imbue an urglosh with the Human Bane and Giant Bane special abilities. The urglosh remains imbued for 6 rounds.
Fissure (Su): By striking the ground at his feet (a standard action), Gregor creates a number of deep fissures which violently split the earth in front of him. Each creature touching the ground in a 60-foot cone from the point of impact must succeed at a Reflex save (DC 20) or be knocked prone. This saving throw is Strength-based.
Power Strike (Ex): Twice per day, Gregor can strike his opponent so hard that it leaves his opponent stunned. To use this ability, he makes a normal attack roll. The attack deals normal damage if successful, and forces the opponent to make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 20) or be stunned for one round. Creatures immune to critical hits are immune to this ability. The saving throw for this ability is Strength-based.
Giant Dodge (Ex): Gregor recieves a +4 dodge bonus to Armor Class against monsters of the giant type (such as ogres, trolls, and hill giants).
Stability (Ex): Gregor is exceptionally stable on his feet, and gains a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped while standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not firmly standing on the ground).
Aura of Courage (Su): Gregor is fearless in battle, knowing that the people of his home are counting on him. He is immune to fear (magical or otherwise), and those within 10 feet of him gain a +4 bonus on saves against fear effects. This ability functions while Gregor is conscious, but not while he is unconscious or dead.
Powerful Grip (Su): Gregor gains a damage bonus equal to one-half his Strength bonus (rounded down) on damage rolls when wielding an axe in melee. Thus, the damage bonus for his weapons is 1 and a half times his Strength bonus while wielding an axe one-handed, or twice his Strength bonus while wielding it two-handed.
Stonecutting (Ex): Gregor gains a +2 racial bonus on Search checks to notice unusual stonework, such as sliding walls, stonework traps, new construction, unsafe stone surfaces, shaky stone ceilings, and the like. Something that isn’t stone but is disguised as stone also counts as unusual stonework. By merely coming within 5 feet of unusual stonework, he can make a Search check as if he were actively searching, and can use the Search skill to find a stonework trap as a rogue can. Gregor can also intuit depth, sensing his approximate depth underground as naturally as a human can sense which way is up.
Weapon Familiarity (Ex): Gregor may treat dwarven waraxes and dwarven urgroshes as martial weapons, rather than exotic weapons.
Notable Equipment
+2 mithril dwarven double-plate mail
+2 Holy Silver Dwarven Urglosh (both ends are similarly enchanted)
Cursed Belt of the Giants: This belt grants the wearer the effects of a Tenser's Transformation spell while worn, but cannot be removed without the use of remove curse or similar magic. Gregor is always quick to remove the belt as soon as possible, as it slowly transforms the wearer into a giant while worn. These modifications are therefore *NOT* included in Gregor's statistics listed above.
