Iznet Avenger

The Iznet Avengers are the product of dedicated study, training, and burning hatred of the dark elves. Recruits skilled in the art of fighting began their training with the study of ancient mind flayer treatises on dark elf anatomy, physiology, and psychology. Once these subjects were mastered, their duergar instructors – disguised as surface dwarves – put them through months of grueling drills in the total darkness of the catacombs. Those who faltered in their rigorous routines often disappeared, secretly sold into slavery to fund their classmates’ training. Many of these warriors had lost a loved one to dark elves in the past, and their rage and elevated their hatred of dark elves to an impressive level. Noting this, the Order decided to capitalize upon a sensed advantage. Soon, every avenger had lost someone to the dark elves – or at least, thought they had. Focusing their anger and sorrow into their training, these warriors became Iznet Avengers.

The Iznet avenger is a ruthless hunter in the subterranean world, an agent of vengeance fueled by unquenchable hatred and remorse. Iznet avengers often form the body of an Order crusade, and are versatile enough to occupy almost any battlefield niche.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Iznet Avenger prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Iznet Avengers are proficient with all simple and martial weapons, as well as with all types of armor and shields.

Favored Enemy (Dark Elves) (Ex): An Iznet avenger is specially trained in fighting and killing dark elves. Starting at 1st level, the avenger gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against dark elves. Likewise, he gains a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against dark elves.

At 4th level, and every three levels thereafter, the avenger’s bonus against dark elves increases by an additional +2.

Track (Ex): Iznet avengers are trained in following the faintest of tracks across barren stone and in near or total darkness. The avenger gains the Track feat for free. If he already possesses the Track feat, he instead gains a +4 bonus on his Survival check while tracking dark elves.

Resist Poison (Ex): In order to build up a tolerance to the various poisons employed by dark elves, the Order continually adds small doses of varying poisons to their recruits’ food. By 2nd level, the avenger has adapted to the poisons so well that he now receives a +4 bonus on all saving throws against poison.

Eyes of Vengeance (Ex): After long months of training and battle, the compact decides to reward the avenger for his dedication. The next time the avenger returns to an Order facility after attaining 2nd level, he is placed in a magical trance while mind flayer fleshgrafters replace his eyes with those of a dark elf As a result, the avenger gains low-light vision as well as darkvision to a range of 60 feet.

By 7th level, the avenger has grown fully adjusted to his new eyes, expanding his dark vision to a range of 120 feet.

Light of Day (Sp): At 3rd level, the Iznet avenger gains the ability to cast a daylight spell once per day. At 6th level, the avenger is able to use this ability to create a searing light effect in addition to the daylight effect; he must choose which effect to create when he uses this ability. He also gains an additional use of this ability per day. At 9th level, this ability expands to include a sunbeam effect, as well as an additional use per day. These abilities are cast as if by a sorcerer of the avenger’s class level.

Uncanny Dodge (Ex): An Iznet avenger of 5th level or higher can react to danger faster than his senses would normally allow him to. He retains his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even is he is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, he still loses his Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. If the avenger already has the uncanny dodge ability from another class, he automatically gains the improved uncanny dodge ability instead.

Improved Critical (Ex): By 8th level, the Iznet avenger’s skill in slaughtering dark elves improves, allowing him to more easily cleave their wretched bodies in half. When attacking a dark elf, the avenger is treated as having the Improved Critical feat with whatever weapon he is using. This ability does not stack with Improved Critical, and affects only dark elves.

Vengeance (Su): A 10th level Iznet avenger becomes a veritable killing machine while fighting dark elves. A number of times per day equal to his Charisma modifier, the avenger may declare a melee attack against a dark elf to be an attack of vengeance. The avenger does not need to make an attack roll to hit his opponent – if the dark elf is within range of the avenger, the attack is a success, and is treated as if it were a critical threat. The avenger must still roll to confirm the critical. On a successful critical hit, treat the avenger’s critical hit multiplier as if it were one greater (x2 becomes x3, x3 becomes x4, etc).
