So far I have gathered the materials to make the underdress. I will use this embroidered silk chiffon:
Notice how sheer it is. You can see the hardwood floor right through it! The actual material is off-white. I purchased it from a silk supplier in India.
To give it that "barely pink" look that the original dress has, I will line it with this "flamingo pink" silk georgette:
It is a very pretty soft looking rosy-pink color. This is how the chiffon will look lined with the georgette:
The overdress and cloak will be made of dark pink/red silk velvet. So far I haven't found the 'perfect' shade, so I may custom dye it myself.
3/9/08 I've decided to go with some silk velvet that I already had. I bought it awhile back with the intention of making the Cranberry gown, but have since decided not to. It is much darker than the original Rose Gown, but the fabric is so beautiful that I can't resist. I've been waiting for something to use it for, and I think that it'll look great as the rose gown, especially the cloak as it drapes wonderfully!
Velvet for the overdress and cloak. Look how beautifully it drapes!
Velvet with underdress fabric. The velvet looks much darker in this picture than it actually is.
Today I finished drafting the pattern for the underdress and cut out the lining, which is pink silk georgette (shown without sleeves):
