Meant For Each Other

Yes, I know. How cliched is the phrase "meant for each other?" But alas, the entire relationship of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy is somewhat cliched, as it follows the same pattern as one of the most famous romantic trgedies ever, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

While we tend to hope that Harry and Draco won't have the famous tragic ending, it is entirely fathomable. The classic love to hate turned hated to love relationship, only probably taken much, much further in the case of Harry and Draco. While Romeo and Juliet had families that hated each other, Harry and Draco have much, much more than that. For one, Draco has a father who is right in the center of Lord Voldemort's ring, while Harry is the boy who once defeated said Lord as a baby.

It would appear that this relationship would be doomed from the start, a hopeless love between two boys who will never be safe due to their backrounds, and who would most likely not be allowed to fall in love due to the current situation in the wizarding world.

The classic choice: love over family. What would Draco choose? For he would most likely be forced into the decision of joining daddy in his worship of Voldemort. If Draco were to choose Harry, the consequences go as far as death. And that goes for Harry as well.

The classic choice: love over good. If Harry truly loved Draco, and Draco were forced into the world of Lord Voldemort, could Harry be dragged along? The famous Boy-Who-Lived, noble Gryffindor who stands for all that is good and the Light, going over to the bad side for true love? It would probably be the only reason us Harry/Draco shippers would accept. If I found that Harry turned evil for power I would dislike the boy. But if I read that he joined the Dark to be with his true love, I'd probably cry and say "aww".

Countless hopless romantics would love to say that Draco defies his family, everything he stands for, just to be with Harry and to love Harry. But everyone knows that this option brings upon the two boys a world of trouble. Voldemort already wants to kill Harry, now he has a reason for killing the traiterous son of Lucius and possibly Lucius himself, as well.

Ah, yes, so this seemingly impossible relationship makes it all the more intriguing and enveloping. Two boys who supposedly hate each other falling in love. As it is often said, hate takes just as much energy to feel than love does, maybe moreso. And Draco is the only one can truly get a rise out of Harry, he is the only one who looks past the scar and sees him as nothing but Harry, a normal boy. Does anybody else bother to do that?

In the books, there is many ways to analyse the proof, the encounters between the two boys are electric, always causing the rest of the students to sit up and pay attention. It seems that it is possible that Harry and Draco understand each more than they think, or care to admit. Harry has no parents, it is possible that Draco's don't really love him. These two boys may have more in common than anyone else Harry knows. And in the end there may be much more than a bitter rivalry.

Can Harry and Draco ever be together? Probably, but it wouldn't be easy, nor would it be rightly accepted. And what about Lucius, and Lord Voldemort? A relationship between Hogwarts most notorious enemies may very well be the end of both boys. Could an end like Romeo and Juliet's occur? It is very likely, indeed.

Why is their reationship so appealing? No on cane be truly positive on that one. It could be the fact that these are two supposed enemies, but I believe it is moreso the light versus dark. Draco is obviously on an opposite side than Harry, whether that changes or not we have yet to know. But it is rather delicious, thinking of a small blonde boy choosing love over power, or possibly a scared raven-haired boy deciding to cross over to the dark to be with his soul mate. The possibilities are endless, yet all lead down to one conclusion: loving that which you hate. Like I said, classic romance, cliched love, forbidden yet desirable. Romeo and Juliet. The idea has been around for ages and what more fun than appplying it to current, everyday life? Harry Potter leaves everything to the imagination, as does the relationship between Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy.

I could go into true detail here, but I feel my point has been made. Convinced yet? I know I am.
