Well, Wrestlemania XX is right around the corner (as of this writing, 15 days away). In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the biggest show of the year, WWE is apparently going all-out, making the show five hours long, supposedly bringing in big names from the past, creating two top-caliber World/WWE title matches, temporarily blending the brands to give us Brock vs. Goldberg, and who knows what else. Here's what WWE should and shouldn't do, in my humble opinion, to ensure that WM XX goes down as one of the greatest PPVs ever to date.

SHOULD: Have Benoit win the World Title. Of course, the probability of this happening seems to be quite low, which totally sucks. I'm not even a Benoit fan but I can see that WM XX will be the maker or breaker of his "big push". Wrestlemania is traditionally the show were new champions are crowned and new top stars made; Benoit thus far has come out of his double feud with Triple H and Shawn looking like a chump; to turn this around and give him any credibility at all, he needs to come out of Wrestlemania as the champ. Winning the title a month later at some second-rate event in a Canadian city that 95% of American fans could give two shits about ain't gonna help him out at all. It's pretty much a given that Shawn isn't going to be getting the belt anytime soon (unless Benoit fails miserably as champ when he eventually gets it), and I, even being the HUGE Hunter fan that I am, think having him win at 'Mania would kill the majority of the crowd. Bottom line: the longer WWE waits to give Benoit the title, the more they're killing the momentum he currently has.

SHOULD NOT: Have Eddie Guerrero lose the WWE Title. Eddie has only recently won the belt and has been shining ever since. He's more over than he ever has been before, and that's saying a lot. It would be a crime to take the title off of him now and give it to the newly-heel-turned Kurt Angle. Angle doesn't need the title anytime soon, and, news flash to the Kurt worshippers- he doesn't particularly deserve it either. It seemed like Kurt missed more time than he was actually on in 2003 from what I saw, why the hell should he be the champ anytime soon. Eddie's been consistently working hard all year on Smackdown and has been a joy to watch. Thank god Kurt just turned heel, his face routine was more stale than Triple H's world title reign. But all that aside... the outcomes of the two main title matches at WM should be Eddie retaining and Benoit winning; nothing else makes sense in my eyes.

SHOULD: Have Goldberg get destroyed by Brock and then stunnered by Austin. If Goldbarf really is leaving after WM, WWE can't send him off without letting us see Austin FINALLY plant him on the canvas with a stunner. I will damn sure have my camera ready to take that shot when/if it happens; Goldberg getting stunnered is definitely a Kodak moment. And after suffering through Goldberg's WWE tenure this far, I think I and everybody else who sees through this guy deserves to watch him get the piss stomped out of him by Brock. Of course, this is pretty unlikely to happen, because Goldbarf's ego won't let him actually sell convincingly for anybody. But I can always dream...

SHOULD NOT: Let their guard down if Bret Hart actually shows up to make his little "speech" that everybody is claiming he will. Oh, I know so many people are just dancing in delight at the thought of Bret making a big speech at Wrestlemania; frankly, the idea makes me sick. I was never a huge fan of Bret (great wrestler, absolutely, but like Benoit today I just couldn't get into him no matter how hard I tried), and that's an understatement about how I feel about the man right now. I have visions of him coming out at WM and using his opportunity at being in front of a live crowd, on the biggest PPV ever, with a mic in his hand, to screw Vince over as payback for the '97 Survivor Series that he still hasn't gotten over yet. Just laying into Vince, Shawn, Triple H, anybody and everybody that was "in" on it. WWE needs to make sure they can cut Bret's mic at the drop of a hat. I wouldn't put anything past this guy. If I didn't believe so strongly that he might actually pull something, I'd use his segment at WM as an opportunity to go buy a pretzel or use the restroom; that's how much dislike I have for the (S)Hitman.

SHOULD: Have Rock and Hogan make appearances. I think it's more or less a given that Rock will have a role at WM, no matter how minor, because it's unfathomable to think of Wrestlemania XX minus the Rock. Ditto. Hogan, while I'm not a big fan of his (and when I was little I basically worshipped him), should definitely have an apperance at WM XX. Hogan is one of the wrestlers responsible for bringing Wrestlemania to the level that it is at. I don't see how they can celebrate the twentieth Wrestlemania without at least having Hogan come out and cut a promo or something. I also think it would be cool to have Macho Man show up- as long as it's not to rap the national anthem or something equally ridiculous. Actually he should be banned from rapping anything at all. Anywhere. Ever.

SHOULD NOT: Have Roddy Piper or Warrior (who, luckily, has already admitted in one of his doofy-ass 1,000-page "columns" that he won't be there) show up. Roddy Piper, after his drug tirade on HBO last year, definitely will not (and shouldn't be) back in Vince's good graces anytime soon; keep him off. And Warrior just plain sucks.

SHOULD: Have Undertaker beat Kane. Undertaker's undefeated streak at Wrestlemania is practically sacred. It should never be ended. Especially at the PPV where he's making his return as the Dead Man gimmick. Can you imagine all the hype, all the buildup for Taker's triumphant return as the Dead Man, ending with a defeat at Wrestlemania? That would be a rating of 11.2 on the 1 to 10 suck scale.

Yeah, that's about it. It'll be interesting to see how much of my ramblings actually come to fruition at Wrestlemania. I'll be there in person (as mentioned time and again on this site), and will be taking tons and tons of pics, so upon my return I'll have a full recap of my "adventures" in NYC, and hopefully pics to post when I get them developed. Only fifteen days to go!
