"Um, Skylar, can you watch Brendan for a little bit. I have to go to my room for a second."-Hailey.
"Yeah sure. Everything OK?"-Skylar.
"Uh, yeah."-Hailey said as she turned and walked down the hallway to the steps. She had a terrible feeling in her stomach, almost to the point that she could spew.
She walked upstairs and into the room she shared with Justin and sat on the bed as she opened the envelope. Tears fell from her eyes as she read the first line.
"Dear Ms. Hailey Reid, we regret to have to inform you of this, but the other tests have concluded that you have a tumor in the occipital part of the brain. It, unfortunately, is malignant and we feel that we can do no more to help you. If you wish to still try radiation or chemo-therapy, we can do that. As we said, we're very sorry to have to inform you of this. signed: Dr. Willis."-Hailey was trembling and crying when she finished reading it. She folded the paper up and put it in her pocket. She went into the bathroom and cleaned her face before rejoining Skylar in the kitchen. Skylar could tell that Hailey's mood had changed since she had left. "Everything Ok?"-Skylar. "Oh yeah. Don't worry about it."-Hailey. As they were setting the table, Justin and Lance came home. Justin was glad to be home and see her and Brendan, but she was acting indifferent and blase. As everyone sat down and Hailey had brought the spaghetti over, Justin asked,"Hailey are you Ok?"
"Yeah, I'm just a bit tired. I'll be in our room if you need me."-Hailey.
A few minutes after Hailey had left, Justin excused himself from the table and walked up to their room. Hailey was on the bed crying silently into a pillow, but he could tell she was crying.
"What's wrong Hailey?"-Justin asked as he sat on the other side of the bed.
"I got this today."-Hailey said as she handed the paper to him.
An hour later, after Justin had asked Skylar and Lance to leave, he was very upset and trying to comfort Hailey, hold Brendan, and talk to the doctor on the phone at the same time.
Hailey got on her cellphone and asked JC to come over. She told him all about the situation. She took Brendan out of Justin's arms because he was going hysterical.
"I thought you said nothing major was wrong!"-Justin.
"Sorry Sir, but the other tests concluded..."-Doctor.
"Screw the tests."-Justin yelled as he threw the phone across the room. Then he stormed out of the room and sat on the front steps of the house.
The front door was open and Justin was sitting on the front steps when JC arrived. JC sat down beside him.
"I know I should be in there with her, but everytime I see her, It'll tear me apart. It'll just remind me that I won't be able to be with her and have her for very long, at least not as long as I wanted."-Justin.
"I know."-by now JC had welled-up.-"I just got her back in my life and I'll have to let her go. But let's just hope it's a long time from now. I think we should go inside and be there for her from now on as long as possible. Just imagine what she's going through though. She has to let us go, plus Brendan. Let's go inside now, for her."-JC said as he helped Justin up.
They walked in and JC went straight over and hugged Hailey.
~Over the next year, everyone that Hailey had known during her short life in this world, came over alot. Justin took alot of breaks from touring and rehearsals, but everyone was sympathetic and understanding about it. Hailey had gotten progressively worse, but continued to want to stay home around her friends and family instead of going to the hospital. Justin and JC's heart would break everytime he saw her, but he tried to look happy in front of her, but every single day, was just another reminder that he wouldn't have much longer with her. They just never knew when she would go, so he tried with all he had to always keep a smile on her face. He had bought a few private beach houses on the beach that she had loved so much. All her friends were around her, until her condition got to the point she could barely stay awake. Finally, the final stage set in and she was extremely weak. Justin sent everyone home and he stayed with her. Justin's mom and JC watched Brendan at home, but would bring him by to cheer Hailey up. Through it all, Justin was always there by her side. And as much as the sight of her made him want to cry, he couldn't let her see his silent tears that appeared every so often.~
"Justin..."-Hailey whispered. They were lying on a blanket, in the sand, watching the waves crash onto the beach. It was a beautiful sight, it was what she wanted. Justin had been watching the waves in their constant motions, moving closer on the sand and also the way the orange sun looked at the horizon, like it was floating on the water. The sky was a beautful mixture of blue, pink, and purple. It was one of the most beautiful nights of his life. But, when she said his name, he looked over at her. And, at that moment, he saw a look in her eyes that he hadn't seen there for a while. A look of complete happiness and love. She looked utterly beautiful to him at that moment. Looking past the pain, just looking into her eyes and reading her face, made tears spring to his eyes.
As another tear fell onto the golden sand and created a tiny puddle, he attempted to wipe his eyes, but she reached over and held onto his left hand as kissed the top of it.-"I love you Justin. You don't have to cry. You've made me so happy. I'm so glad you came back to me. I couldn't be happier. You have no reason to cry. You need to stop. I hate to see you cry."-Hailey said as she left go of his hand and wiped another tear that threatened to fall from his face.
"I love you too. You are the best thing that ever happened to me."-Justin said as he leaned over and kissed her.
~Then one morning, a few days later, just as the sun had peaked over the endless horizon and was shining bright into their room, he couldn't wake her. This was it. He had his time with her for 3 wonderful years, and now was the time to let go.~
He immediately called his mom to get an ambulance to come. He was unsure of what to do from the shock of it all, for although he knew this would happen, he wasn't quite ready for it to occur so soon.
He didn't know he was crying until moments later, when he felt the salty tears grace his cheeks as they had many times before, his eyes were extremely red from being so exhausted from laying awake so many nights watching her sleep praying this day would never come. He picked her limp body up and walked out of the beachhouse. The sun was just coming out above the horizon and the sky was lit up with an array of colors, the waves were gently crashing onto the sand. He sat down on the sand and rocked her in his arms as he ran his hand across her once rosy cheeks. Then just as he heard the ambulance coming near and hear the sirens, he whispered,"I'll be missing you Hailey. I love you...always and forever."
