Here are some laws that some roleplayers and I have gathered up during our roleplay experiences and that we think everyone should have committed to memory. Some are obvious and some are not so obvious. So just scan and read, and hopefully with this info your rpg experience will be a little better.
1. Thou shalt not powerplay. Hammer this in your head. You will not move, think, or talk for any other person. This is the ultimate insult to roleplayers and if you want yourself to have no one to roleplay with, this is the sure fire way to go.
2. Thou shalt not butcher your character. Most of VCA's heroines are sugar and spice, and they should be played that way. Sure a slip up is expected because let's face it, we don't know what a character is like ALL the time. But if you want your character to cuss, connive, and be a bad girl/guy--then get a bad girl/guy. Don't pick Annie or Melody. If you want leverage with a character. Pick one that wasn't really discussed like Darcy Wise, Darren Marquet, etc.
3. Thou shall not badger a person you're roleplaying with offline! Ugh. Its just irritating. Its nice to establish a connection to people out of the roleplay and work on storylines, but alas don't send 50 emails all containing the same thing unless you are truly friends and even that can be irritating.
4. Thou shall not get too freaky with sexual scenes. We're in a roleplay, not a porn movie.
5. Thou shall not faint more than once a millenium or have amnesia. The Damsel in Distress Act is overrated. Same thing with illness or accidents. Its a really sad way to draw attention to yourself and unless it works for the storylines, its just really burnt out and probably everyone in the roleplay has seen it about a hundred times.
6. Sign your name at the bottom. Not everyone in this world knows who you are and what character you're playing.
7. Pick up a guy for goodness sakes! Trust me, it irks people when you see someone having 7 girls and then they complain about not having enough guys in the roleplay. HELLO?! I mean come on. Most of the VCA roleplayers are women and its hard for most of us to play guys. So be generous and pick up at least one guy or limit yourself to just one girl.
8. The sheep people. We've all seen this. Its when people tend to stick together with all their characters, and it becomes cliquey. Where one of the sheep goes, the rest of the flock follows. Sometimes it can be intimidating because some don't feel like they can enter your little circle, and some just want to laugh at you because well...you're sheep. So try and spread yourself out. Meet new people, leave a post free for someone to jump in. You never know what could happen.
9. Realize that there is a line between roleplaying and real life. Just because a character is horrible to you on the board, does not mean that they hate you in real life. Also the roleplay is not a hook-up board. If you're fishing for a date and are sending anonymous love letters to fellow roleplayers, we suggest you quit the roleplay quick. Not only is it creepy, more than likely it won't get you anywhere and if your identidy is ever figured out you'll be laughed at.
10. Do not have annoying backgrounds on your email that take forever to display or headache bright fonts. More than likely people will skip over your post if it contains that.
