There have been many teachers, counselors, housemothers, and other staff members that have had an influence in the TIS/TPS student's lives.  Many of the staff members went above and beyond the call of duty when it came to shaping our lives.   The Photo Galleries below are in honor of every staff member of Tennessee Industrial School and Tennessee Preparatory School.  If you would like to submit one or more staff members who had an influence in your life click on the link at the bottom of this page.

In Loving Memory Of

Marvin S. Heard

Dec. 9, 1933 - Nov. 21, 1969

According to national statistics the average life span of an American is sixty-eight to seventy years.  Marvin Heard lived less than half this long.  There are no statistics available to measure the worth of his stay on earth.  Only those who knew him as a husband, son, father, friend, teacher, coach, counselor, neighbor and buddy could begin to evaluate his life.  Only we can feel the total emptiness resulting from his passing.  He is gone, but yet he lives in our memory and will forever.

It has been said that great men need not be eulogized.  Their life on earth is their eulogy and will speak for itself ----Such a man was Marvin Heard.  Not only did he show us how to live, but how to die as well, bravely, without complaint, struggling to do as much as he could with what ability, energy and time he had left.
