An Essay Bibliography Time has changed many religions. Revolutions have forced modifications in the interpretation of their ancient texts. However as time speeds by, these interpretations of the traditional texts are no longer able to conform to today’s knowledge. For example, the Koran’s discrimination of women holds no virtue because women have proven they are as competent as men. It is time for a new religion that recognizes these revolutions in time. This religion is the Ender Way. Although there are many contradictions between Christianity’s Bible, Hinduism’s Bhagavad Gita, Muslim’s Koran, Tao, and Siddhartah Guatama (or Buddhism), the Ender Way brings these cultures together to create a religion that is up to date with today’s standards, and without losing the spirituality the traditional religions provide. There are 5 books in the Ender Way: God, Truth, Love, Action, and Mediation; all of which are based on these cultures. Book 1 first states that God exists and is all knowing and all-powerful. This is idea comes from the Muslim culture and is found in the Koran. “Say: ‘Whether you hide what is in your hearts or reveal it, it is known to Allah. He knows all that heavens and the earth contain and has power over all things.’” (Sura 14:4) This quote explicitly states that Allah (God) knows all and has power over everything. The second statement of Book 1 comes from both Muslim and Christian beliefs. The second statement from Book 1 is that God is merciful. A benevolent God is from Muslim and Christian belief. The bible says, “I knew that thou art a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and repentest of evil.” (Jonah 4:2) However a difference between the Koran and Bible is a debate on if God, or Allah, deceives a person. The Ender Way sides with the Bible on this argument. The Ender Way believes that “God is truth” and “God is love”, thus God would never deceive because He loves the world. This belief is the same as the Bible which states, “Jesus said, ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.’” (John 3:16, 17) The Muslim culture differs from the Ender Way and Christianity by believing that Allah will decide whom He will mislead. “Thus Allah misleads whom He will and guides whom He pleases.” (Sura 74:31) Book 1 states that God is truth; Book 2 describes how to find truth (God). Book 2 describes the meaning of life: to find truth. The search for Tao (enlightenment) is similar to the search for truth in the Ender Way. One must understand in order to prevent more suffering, and give up attachments and desires to focus on what is truly important. The idea that true understanding prevents suffering comes from Siddhartah Guatama. Thich Nhat Hanh wrote about understanding the First Precept (Reverence for Life) in Siddhartah Guatama. He said, “When you understand a situation or a person, any action you do will help and will not cause more suffering.” According to Hanh, only when one truly understands any one thing, will one be able to not cause more suffering towards that thing. Thus after death, according to The Ender Way, one is brought to Alai to pay penance for one’s sins of not understanding truth during life. Since Heaven is a place of no suffering, it is necessary to understand truth before entering Heaven. In order to understand truth, one must focus on what is actually important. The Ender way believes that the desire for items shades one’s vision on what is truly important. These items are similar to material items that Taoism preaches against. Confucius said “With coarse rice to eat, with water to drink, and my bended arm for a pillow; I still have joy in the midst of these things. Riches and honors acquired by inhumanity are to me as a floating clouds.” The “course rice” and water are the basic essentials to survival. The fact that the speaker only needs these things exemplifies the simplicity of life. To practice the Tao ideal today, one would have to leave the desires of the technological world and go into nature to live off the land. However, because The Ender Way holds that the advancement of knowledge brings people closer to truth, the Ender way differs from the Tao ideal. Tools created by advancements in human technology are not a material item. For example, the computer would be an item deemed as one of the “ten thousand things” but because the computer provides efficiency, organization, and communication to the world, it is not considered a material item to the Ender Way. What makes one blind to the truth is excessive desire for these items. An example of a superfluous appetite is the wanting to buy a child a stuffed teddy bear when she already owns two teddy bears. The child does not need the third bear nor will buying a third stuffed teddy bear improve the child’s knowledge. Also purchasing another teddy bear will not show the child that you love them, in accordance to Book 3. The Ender Way states that love is intangible, forever, and truthful. This implies that love cannot be bought (like the teddy bear), taken away, or defiled. Book 3 is teaches love and defines it similarly to the Christian religion. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” (Corinthians 1:13) The Ender Way also states to “Love everyone as yourself”. This is similar to one of the Ten Commandments according to the Bible: “Love thy neighbor as thyself”. The Ender Way’s statement is just a modern day statement of the commandment. According to Jesus, everyone is your neighbor. Thus, the “everyone” in “Love everyone as yourself” is the Christian’s “neighbor”. However, there is no specific degree to or way love someone because there is no degree or way to love someone. The Ender Way states that love is love, it is not an act it just is. Action connotes something being done and love cannot be “done”. Book 4 explains action and the difference on when to act and when not to act. Action is a focused course taken with awareness. One should act when he understands, not act when he does not understand and not act when he understands that the only good action to take is no action. To commit an action after comprehending every virtuous detail is an ideal from Tao and the Bhagavahd Gita. “The superior man in everything considers righteousness to be essential. He performs it according to the rules of propriety (li). He brings it forth in humility. He completes it with sincerity.” The word “consider” denotes “To take into account; bear in mind”. Righteousness is connotes in accordance with truth. Thus, Confucius is implying that the “Superior Man” found in Tao is one who understands. The search for truth, life according to the Ender Way, is similar to the becoming the Tao “Superior Man” in respects that one must understand everything. The knowledge one must acquire before committing an action is found by becoming enlightened (finding truth), which implies casting off one’s unnecessary desires. This ideal is similar to the scene in the Mahabharata/Bhagavad Gita when Arjuna was afraid to fight in the war. “Action, Arjuna, is far inferior to the devotion of the mind. In that devotion seek shelter. Wretched are those whose motive to action is the fruit of action. He who has obtained devotion in this world casts off both merit and sin. Therefore apply yourself to devotion; devotion in all actions is wisdom. The wise who have obtained devotion cast off the fruit of action; and released from the shackles of repeated births, repair to that seat where there is no unhappiness.” - Krishna In this scene, Krishna tells Arjuna that when taking action one must forgo all worldly desires and act with pure devotion to knowledge (truth). Krishna believed Arjuna was justified to battle against Durydhoyana not because Durydhoyana had taken away their riches but because he acted dishonorable towards them. Contrary to the Bhavagad Gita, the Ender Way would forbid Arjuna to fight Durydhoyana. Since one is to love everyone as himself, violence upon another person is not justified unless it is to save another person. In accordance to the Ender Way, the Pandava Brothers should not declared war on against Durydhoyana. Nor should they have continuously submitted to Dhiterashita’s jealous son’s biddings from the beginning. Instead the Ender Way would suggest action should be applied in the form of passive resistance as the African Americans fought for their rights. Passive resistance is also found in Taoism. Lao Tsu wrote in one of his poems: “The sage does not act, and so is not defeated”. The sage is one who is fully lives and understands Tao. Contrary to the Ender Way, the sage takes no action where as the Ender Way believes one should understand the situation and then decide whether action or non-action is the best courts of action. The Ender Way states that living in mediation is the best course of action. Book 5 defines “mediation” as “not in excess of more or less”. This means that one should not do, posses, gain, etc. more or less than one is needed. Mediation is the walking of the two-fold path as described by Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita: “O sinless one! I have already stated that in this world there is a twofold path: that of the Sankhyas by devotion in the shape of true knowledge; and that of the Yogins by devotion in the shape of action.” The Sankhyas are the philosophical tradition (or wisdom) of Hinduism, and the Yogins are the practices of yoga (spiritual discipline). To walk to two-fold path would be to find the balance between enriching the mind and self-restraint of the body. The Ender Way agrees one must walk the two-fold path but more specifically one’s own balance. For example, a person could need more discipline of the body because he is already naturally wise. Therefore one must know himself before he can live in mediation. In today’s world, most people have lost sight of who they really are. The Ender Way was created to help one realize what is real or true. Combining the better aspects of Buddhism, Muslim, Christianity, Hinduism, and Taoism helps one to find oneself. However, since revolution in equality and technology has proven the ideals of these cultures to be obsolete, the Ender Way also takes into consideration human advancements made and to be made. Thus the Ender Way is a more contemporary religion that does not lose the spirituality of the traditional religions.
