"Critic's Choice" - Brian Courtis

The Glass House, ABC 10.30pm Friday (Three and a half stars = Worth considering)
Anniversary shows are always suspect in television. Who is going to get stroppy about whether that is the 449th or 450th episode of Play School or Blue Heelers the network is creating a fuss about? Ted Robinson's weird mob in The Glass House are at least admitting, while celebrating, some uncertainty about the reality of their claim to have produced 100 shows. This week, however, the very funny Wil Anderson, Corinne Grant and Dave Hughes will enjoy their 100th get-together. May there be many more.

The Glass House, ABC 10.30pm Friday (Thumbs up)
For a show marked for the chernel house last year, according to internal rumours, and which has had the obligatory ABC timeslot reshuffle (but somehow avoided being Fat-ed: the new expression for being shoved, stuffed and finally gutted), there's something to celebrate most weeks on The Glass House. Tonight, it's the 100th episode, so presumably Dave Hughes will be audibly excited, Corinne Grant will wise-up and Wil Anderson will speak slowly and in a low voice. Then again, maybe not.
Although there's occasionally a suspicion that there could be some better jokes if the pace was held back a little, The Glass House has more than ably filled some of the gap left by Good News Week. Golly, there's even some regular political satire, and that's just about the only spot on TV, save for Clarke and Dawe.

Top of the Glass
The Glass House celebrates its 100th show on May 7. TV WEEK chats to Wil Anderson, Dave Hughes and Corinne Grant about their favourite moments

After 100 episodes, you must have some loyal fans.
Wil:
There's a couple of people who have been to every single episode, no matter where we've been, which means they've officially been to more episodes than both Dave and Corinne have.
Dave:There's a blonde girl, and another girl who wears a Glass House T-shirt every week.
Wil: To be honest, it always freaks me out when people come up to me in the street and say: "I love The Glass House. It's my favourite show!" I don't know how to react to that because it's not even my favourite show. "I tell you what, Survivor's really good."
Corinne: Wil! Wil: Well, it is! Survivor's great.
But if they came up to you and said, "I love The Glass House, it's my fourth favourite show..."
Wil:
I'd believe them Corinne: You've got self-esteem problems.
So what have you found out about Corinne and Dave from doing the show?
Wil:
I found out that Corinne used to collect bread clips.
Corinne:You know, the little square tags that hold the top of the bread bags together.
What did you do with them?
Corinne:
I just collected them in an envelope and looked at them.
And what have you learnt about Dave?
Corinne: That he likes John Williamson. Wil: Yes, that was a revelation
What news stories from the past four years have been your favourites?
Corinne:
I'm quite partial to anything to do with refugees.
Wil: We were the first show on TV to do September 11 stuff. I reckon we did great stuff about that, talking about it in exactly the right way.
You've had some fairly serious people on the show - have you ever been surprised by how funny they can be?
Corinne:
(Journalist) George Negus was hilarious
Wil: Amanda Vanstone (Minister for Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs) was on, very early on in the show. She was great fun. I completely disagree with pretty much everything she's said in the last year...
Would you like to have Prime Minister John Howard on the show?
Wil:
I'd love it. You know who would be awesome? (Treasurer) Peter Costello. He has a great sense of humour. Put out the challenge. Any Liberal Party politician who wants to come on, we're here.
Who else would you like to have on the show?
Corinne:
(The 7:30 report presenter) Kerry O'Brien. Dave:Corinne's in love with Kerry O'Brien. Corinne: Yeah, I Kerry O'Brien's ace!
