Interested in Mortal Kombat? 'Course you are. Well, here you may find information no other Mortal Kombat site has! How? Well, for starters there's the tons of information in the Amiga MK booklet, that was never printed in the console versions! This info will be written below. It shows all the player's stats(age, height, a bit of their background etc...) and will help clue you in more on what's actually going on with each character and why they're there. I own MK on Amiga and MD, MK2 on Amiga and MD and Ultimate MK3 in MD! Well, this should help you with any nags in some of the MK storylines (some of which make no sense anyway, but who cares?). After this, if you need help on MK, MK2 or UMK3 then the Tips and Cheats section is open with a wide range of tips and cheats. Feel free to browse around at your own leisure.
ROAREYE!

This is the first ever Mortal Kombat. The difference is plain per each system. But this will always remain a top classic as it is one of the best known fighters of all time!
Amiga
This is brilliant! Easy to load except for some unfortunate disc changes when you go to the option and cheat menus but during play, you practically don't ave to change the discs at all! The voices and sound is crisp and clear but there is only one music piece throughout the whole of the fights. Improved graphics to the console versions but some small detail (the pillars in the courtyard etc...) is left out. This version feels more like a serious fighter rather than it's comedy-feel 16-bit console counterparts.

Mega Drive
This is more a comedy flick than a fighter. This isn't for the people who want serious fighting, this is for people who like a joke. It's not bad, it's just that Mortal Kombat is supposed to be a serious fighting affair and this is just funny how sometimes you'll get a meaty 'CRACK' as if you've snapped your opponents neck with an uppercut or a roundhouse! Although you are spared the loading times of the amiga. It's got more detail in the backgrounds but is graphically inferior to the Amiga version. It's got more music, one track per level, but it doesn't always sound as dark as the Amiga sound-track.

The second instalment was no let down. This juicy game spread it's wake across the world with it's top notch fighting.
Amiga
Unlike it's original, the second instalment on the Amiga is the worst! The first game looked better, hardly ever loaded and went smoothly. Unfortunately, in this sequal you had to change discs for almost every match, the games graphics were poor and the animatioons were less. The three ninjas all moved like Sub-Zero. Why did they screw it up!? This could have totalled the console versions, and should have done, judging from it's older brother. But alas this game was not even tried on. It feels like your playing a BETA copy of the game and is not too fun to play.

Mega Drive
The flip in the cards for the Amiga had a direct impact on this game as this became one of the best versions released. The graphics were crisp, the sounds were clear, it felt like a true fighter and not a joke AND all of the characters moved differently! You probably wonder why I care about how the characters move so much, well it's because it shows that more time and effort has been put into the game. If they use more money on more animations, it means that it wasn't cheaply rushed out and time was spent on it. This is the best in the series. It may not be as funny in the sense that the first one on the MD fell into, but compared to it I would prefer this one on the MD.

With the Amiga out of the gaming lifestyle by this point, MK3 was released and you could PLAY as a Goro female! A little after that, a newer version was released. In comes Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3! It had more characters and more options than MK3 but lost the female Goro, Sheeva.
Mega Drive
This game isn't as good as MK2 in my books, although you could play as alot more characters. With Sheeva removed, the exitement of MK3 was removed slightly. Still, with a whole host of more characters, this is alot more ninja based. Noob Saibot, Ermac, Rain, Classic Sub-Zero, Classic Smoke and Mileena, all made a comeback. The unfortunate complex controls meant it was only really playable with a Six Button controller. If you have two six buttoned controllers you should be fine, as you can also fine-tune the different moves to specific buttons, but if you only have three buttons, then keep clear or buy two six buttons. The animations were alot more lazy, a bit of a let down from the second game, as all the ninjas moved the same but Reptile and Rain STOOD differently and Mileena was the same as Jade. Also the character's moves were alot harder to execute. But all the options make it fun to play, but don't buy if you see yourself stuck onto it for months. It just won't happen.

Most mags gave it a bad mark because of some minor bad points on it's part(All of which don't matter). Yes, the graphics were a little lazy, the sound wasn't always brilliant(But was most of the time) and there were alot fewer characters to play as than UMK3, but the gameplay is untouchable. It's not the most serious Mortal Kombat fighter, but it's certainly one of the most fun to play!
Dreamcast
The mags gave this game a bad mark for some laziness(which it would have been nice of the programmers to fix before release) but all mags apparently say
"Graphics don't matter too much, but it's the gameplay that counts!"
Then they go and give this a bad mark! This is gameplay heavenfor about a month. They are correct in longevity as it won't last you long. Some new additions to the usual smack-em-up fest are extremely welcome and make the game alot more fun to play. Imagine Tekken(Hand-to-hand fighting) and imagine Soul Calibur(Weapon fighting) put them together and what do you have? Mortal Kombat Gold is what you have! By pushing a certain button combination during play you can get out a weapon, and if you drop it, you just press Down and Run to pick it back up. In some levels, spiked balls and skulls litter the arena, for you to use as projectiles. All the characters look different, even if some share certain stances. The controls are brilliantly set out, and customisable to fit your playing style. Whenever you complete the arcade mode as a character you are treated to a cut-scene(pre-rendered) to show you what happens rather than just writing. Unfortunately, Reptile has been made to look REALLY crap. He looked SO much better as a ninja, and unfortunately Johnny Cage is back but these are minor problems. You have Endurance matches(arcade-style fights of 1 round where your health is carried onto the next match), Tournaments, 2 players and a whole host of other things to keep you happy. If you don't mind a short lifespan and like a hilarious laugh at the expense of an enemy look no further
Mortal Kombat Gold!
