About the Oracle of Delphi
I chose the oracle of Delphi as my web site’s name simply because I think the oracle was an unique and intelligent character in Greek literature. Historically, Delphi was the main temple to Apollo and the high priestess there was Apollo’s oracle, divining the future. In literature the oracle shows up often, being mentioned not only in classical Greek histories but also in the annals of Rome. In these stories the oracle did more than just tell future events. Her prophecies were veiled and purpose driven, only those devout enough to think through the given oracle understood it and were able to apply its meaning. The oracle only told as much as was needed for people to carry out their fate. Ultimately her oracles never failed, although they usually played out differently from how everyone expected.
I do not consider myself to be a spokesperson for God. My purpose on this site is to intelligently think through some of the current positions in Christianity and contemplate where those positions will take us in the future. I do not expect everyone to agree with me or to even like what I say. However, time will take us forward into the future where anything we have done will fate us for the positive or the negative. And it is well worth taking the time to think about an issue to be sure we choose the positive.
