Steppe Lemming

Natural range: Ukraine to western Mongolia and Sinkiang
Housing
- aquarium with a screen lid is best
- allow at least 10gal per trio
- females are social and be kept in large groups
- males are territorial but can be housed in pairs if introduced at a young age
- Bedding: aspen
- Accessories: hideaways, tubes, wood chews, wheel
Food
- mixture of a high quality parakeet seed mix, cavy pellet and softbill bird diet
- allow free access to timothy hay
- offer fresh green veggies and small millet once to twice weekly
- do not feed any foods which contain sugar as it has been noted that there is a high possibility that they have an intolerance for it
Breeding
- Maturity: 4-5 weeks old
- Gestation: 18-20 days
- Litter size: 4-10
- young develop very quickly
- should be fully weaned by 4 weeks old
