Housing
- large multi-level rat type cage or aquarium with wire mesh lid
- allow at least 50gal per pair
- social and should be housed in pairs or small groups
- Bedding: corn cob or reptile sand
- Accessories: full sized chinchilla wheel, litter pan, shallow dish with chinchilla dust, nest box, piece of soft rock
Food
- mixture of high quality cavy pellets with some rodent blocks
- allow free access to timothy hay
- feed a small amount of fresh green veggies twice weekly
- do not offer a water source, they will get all the water they need from the fresh vegetable
Breeding
- Maturity: unknown
- Gestation: 56-60 days
- Litter size: 1-3
- young are born fully developed and suckle infrequently
- should be fully weaned by 4 weeks old
