About Evranae

Species Information

Evran: singular, pronounced "EV-ran".
Evranae: plural, pronouned "EV-ran-eigh" ('eigh' is said like eight without a 't').

Evranae are generally shy creatures although personalities differ among Evranae as much as they do among humans. They have different skills, magical powers, and likes based on what they are capable of in terms of their body structure as well as their element type. (For example, a wingless earth elemental Evran might not like flying as much as a winged air elemental.) They are quite intelligent, but most are incapable of speaking. Nearly all Evranae can sing lovely, tuneless melodies, and they greatly enjoy doing so for the entertainment of their friends.

They are very much like sea serpents in body shape, though some of them have wings. Feathered Evranae are rarer than scaled, or Dragon-like Evranae, but mixes of both types are possible. Some have crests or fins, and a very small number have pectoral fins or flippers. They have large eyes to help them see well at night or in water as well as in the daytime. Sizes can vary from as small as a person's hand to as long as a car! An Evran's preferred home really depends on the individual, but they seem to get along with most creatures as long as it is not too crowded.

Evranae are omnivores, but their prey consists mainly of small insects to supplement the variety of plants and fruits they eat. They are originally from the realm known as Avera, a lush tropical world suited to their species.
An adult male Evran is called a Resk and an adult female Evran is called a Kalt. All young Evranae are referred to as Chintal, which is the same word for plural or singular. 3-5 Chintal are usually born when Evranae breed, but when there are 2, the twins are usually very special. It is believed that Evranae hatch from eggs, but since Kalts are so very secretive about their nests, no one is really sure. Evranae form loose groups known as Ayons, but members are free to come and go as they please. While in an Ayon, each member is expected to contribute in some way whether it is by gathering food or standing guard.
