Prayers for Justin
May 1,2001

Just a note to tell you that Justin's first few weeks at home have been wonderful!

He has been eating well & gained weight better than expected- his last weigh in was almost 9 lbs! He no longer needs Lasix. We had a few problems getting the port for his shots to last long enough the last few times- the last one was bleeding just 2 days after it was put in. It's supposed to save him getting sticks each time he gets the Lovenox (twice a day) but had to be changed every 5 days. The problem is that changing the port is more painful than the tiny needles used for the shots. It just wasn't worth it if it doesn't last very long... so we're learning to give him the shots. The first one we did together & wasn't too bad. But the next morning I was alone & it was a definite trauma. He kept jerking & the needle would come out before I could put the meds in & it took almost an hour & 4 sticks! A home health care nurse came out this morning & things went much more smoothly- he didn't even cry! I'm about to give him his evening dose...

Justin is so active! He likes to swat at the activity gym Stephen & Kristi loaned us & we've played the "stick out your tongue" game & "who can smile bigger" several times! He also loves his peaceful planet aquarium...

They will do another heart cath in mid-May & surgery is scheduled for June 13th.

And now, Justin calls... I need to give him his meds & feed him. I'll write again soon... Your prayers have helped carry us this far & we thank you again... please continue to pray for Justin!
